Video Transcript for Reese Fifth Wheel Installation Kit - Universal - RP30035 Review

Today we'll be reviewing part number RP30035. This is the Reese Universal Base Rails and Installation Kit for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches. It is going to be a 10 bolt design. The base rails are going to provide necessary attachment points for your 5th wheel trailer hitch. The universal brackets are designed so that they fit most applications, and then the adapter brackets can be used to ease installation on certain vehicles. The kit's going to include both rails, four brackets, two larger ones with more mounting options, and then the two smaller ones, and it's going to include all the hardware that you need, all the instructions, and the fish wire that you just thread onto the end of the bolt, and you can bring it through the appropriate hole as needed. It makes it a little bit easier to get the bolts in the right place. Some compatible hitches are going to be Curt, Draw-Tite, Hidden Hitch, Reese, Valley and Husky.

This does work with RBW Li'l Rocker Hitch Fifth Wheel Hitch. It will not fit the Reese Elite Series Signature Series or Valley UBS hitches. It's made from a nice solid steel construction with a nice black powder coated finish on it, so it is going to stand up well against rust and corrosion. That's going to do it for today's review of part number RP30035. This is the Reese Universal Base Rails and Installation Kit for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches. .

  • Semi-Custom Base Rail and Installation Kit for a 2003 Ram 2500 and a Husky Slider 5th Wheel Hitch
We do have a semi-custom base rail installation kit for your 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 long bed, however, the Reese Semi-Custom Base Rail and Install Kit, # RP30035-023, that you referenced will not fit in your truck. This kit was designed for newer model Ram 1500 trucks. Instead, you will want to install the Reese Semi-Custom Base Rail and Install Kit, # RP30035-023, if your truck has overload springs, or # RP30035-186 if your truck does not have the overload springs. The base rails that are...

  • Recommendation for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch and Install Kit for Use with Sidewinder on 2010 Dodge Ram
Sidewinders, like # RP61412, are designed to be used with stationary hitches but can be used with a slider hitch as long as the slider remains locked in the towing position while towing or connected to a trailer. I have included a link to our FAQ article on Sidewinders for reference. To determine the best 5th wheel trailer hitch and installation kit for your truck, I will need to know a little more about it. Is your Big Horn a 1500, 2500, or 3500. Does it have overload springs. Is it a...

  • Does The Reese Installation Kit for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches # RP58386 Include Mounting Hardware
Hey Robert, The bracket kit # RP58386 you were looking at is a confirmed fit for your Ram but it's just the frame mounting brackets without any hardware included. If you're needing the hardware separately you can use part # 58164. You can get these brackets, the rails, and hardware kit all together with part # RP30035-386 to make everything easier. Your vehicle's frame will likely be open but I won't lie to you there's going to be numerous other components that will be in your way while...

  • Recommended Fifth Wheel And Gooseneck Hitches For 2012 Ram 1500 With Short Bed
If your 2012 Ram 1500 did not come with the factory tow package included, you will have to do some drilling in the frame when installing a fifth wheel hitch or a gooseneck hitch. Unless it is either stated in the manual or if a dealership would recommend against towing a fifth wheel trailer, I am not aware of there being an issue with fifth wheel towing. If you decide you would like a fifth wheel, you are right that a Sidewinder will be needed with your truck with the short bed. We would...

The Reese 16K 5th Wheel Hitch # RP30051 and install kit # RP30035-386 are a confirmed fit and will install on your 2012 Dodge Ram 1500, but you may need to modify your bed liner depending on which type you have. Per the manufacture's instructions: Do not install mounting rails over plastic bed liners. Plastic bed liners must be cut out of the way. Base rails may be installed on spray in liner. The Reese semi-custom installation kit # RP30035-386 is a fit for the 2013 Dodge Ram 1500 with a 5-1/2 foot bed. Being a semi-custom kit means that there is still some drilling that needs to be performed but not as much as a universal kit, but more than a custom kit. I have included links to the installation instructions for you. Since you have a 5-1/2 foot bed, you will need to use either a fixed 5th wheel hitch or a slider that stays locked in the tow position at all times AND you will...

To install your Lil Rocker 5th wheel in your 2013 Dodge Ram 1500, my technical contact at Reese recommends you use the Semi-Custom Installation Kit # RP30035-386. This kit contains the rails, mounting hardware, and brackets. • 5th Wheel Trailer hitch for 2014 Dodge Ram with 5-1/2 Foot Bed
On beds shorter than 6 feet you will need a fixed hitch and a Sidewinder on the trailer to be able to make tight turns. For a 5th wheel trailer hitch installation kit you can use kit # RP30035-386. For a hitch, if 16,000 pounds is enough for the trailer I recommend the Reese # RP30047. It has a 4-Way pivoting head and dual jaws for a secure connection. For a 20K version use # RP30928. A Sidewinder adds an additional 22 inches of clearance and will allow you to make tight turns. I do have a solution for you, however the sliding 5th-wheel hitches we have available are not recommended for use on a 2017 Ram 1500 that has the Rambox like yours. The issue is that the Rambox feature can interfere with a sliding hitch, which is what is typically needed on short bed trucks in order to provide proper clearance during sharp turns. If your Grand Design Reflections 150 comes with a Lippert Turning Point Pin Box then there will be no need for a Reese Sidewinder as these both serve the same purpose which is to move the pivot point therefore making for more turning clearance. The only thing you would need is a fixed 5th wheel hitch and for that I recommend the Reese 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch part # RP30047 because of the dual locking jaws which form a tight grip on the kingpin therefore making for a smooth ride. This Reese...

  • Jaws Will Not Release on Reese 16K 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch
Does the handle on the 5th wheel hitch offer any resistance when you pull on it to open the jaws? If it doesn't then that is an indication of a broken spring. But there is a second spring that could be missing as well. The trouble is you have to access the underside of the head to access the springs. If the hitch jaws will not release and the trailer is coupled then you can try to pry apart the jaws manually. Other wise you would have to release the head from the legs which I do NOT recommend....

  • How to Tow Fifth Wheel Trailer with 2018 RAM 2500 w/ Ram Box and Air Suspension
The only way you can safely tow a fifth wheel trailer with a Ram truck that has a Ram Box is with a Sidewinder pin box replacement as the pin box would no longer swing to the sides in the truck bed and hit the narrower bed rails. Sidewinders are pin box specific so you will first need to know what pin box you have now in order to pick out the correct one. There should be a sticker or a stamping on the OEM pin box of the trailer that will list the pin box number that is on the trailer. Once...

  • Will Demco 13k Autoslide Hitch Allow for Turning Clearance in 5-1/2 foot Truck Bed
The Demco 13k Auto Slider part # DM8550041 will automatically slide up to 22-1/2 inches as you make tight turns. That's substantially more than other slider hitches and it's currently the only slider hitch we can recommend for a truck with a 5-1/2 foot bed like I am assuming you have. There is a formula that you can use if you want to be cautious though. (A + B) - C = Clearance A = Distance from the fifth wheel jaw center to the truck cab (you can use rear axle center) B = Slider distance...

  • Sliding Fifth Wheel Hitch for a 2017 F-250 Super Crew with 6 3/4 Bed
Since you have a Keystone trailer with the Turn Max technology you don't need a slider at all actually. Manual or automatic slider would not be needed. With fifth wheel hitch you actually don't really need them to sit higher than the bed rails of the truck. It's actually the opposite in nearly every situation that the hitch sits below the top of the bed rails. The pin box of the truck extends down far enough to compensate for that. The Reese fifth wheel hitch part # RP30047 is a similar...

  • Recommended 5th Wheel Rail Kit and Hitch for 2017 F-150 & Highland Ridge Open Range Light 5th Wheel
The 2018 Highland Ridge Open Range Light lf318rls has a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of 9,995 lbs and an unloaded weight of 7,895 lbs. According to Ford, your 2017 F-150 Ecoboost 3.5L Supercrew 4x4 has a towing capacity of 10,200 lbs. So, you won't have any problem towing this 5th wheel trailer. For your 2017 F-150, I recommend the Reese Quick-Install Custom Base Rails and Installation Kit for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches # RP50087-58 which is a custom fit for your vehicle. Then...

  • Can A Fifth Wheel Trailer Be Used with a Ford F-150 Supercrew 5-1/2 Foot Bed
You may be able to use a fifth wheel, depending on the width of the trailer. Since the 5-1/2 foot bed is so short, in turning the fifth wheel trailer can end up making contact with the cab of the truck resulting in damage. The Sidewinder is essentially a hitch extender that will provide enough clearance for some fifth wheel trailers to be towed behind 5-1/2 bed trucks. You will need to take some measurements on the truck and the width of the fifth wheel trailer and calculate if you would...

  • Fifth Wheel Hitch and In-Bed 7-Way for Long Bed GMC Truck with Rails
Hey Steve, it sounds like you have a set of fifth wheel rails in the bed of your truck already and are just looking for a hitch to fit into them as well as a 7-way kit that puts the 7-way up in the bed. Check out the attached picture to see what the rails you have SHOULD look like. For a hitch you could then use the Reese 16k part # RP30047 since you have a long bed and do not need additional clearance to make tight turns. Then for a 7-way you would want the part # 41157 to give you...

  • Will Sidewinder Allow 2016 Ram 1500 With Rambox to Make 90 Degree Turn?
In order to determine if a Sidewinder such as # RP34FR will allow you to perform a 90 degree turn with your 2016 Ram 1500, you first need to measure the distance from the center of your fifth wheel hitch jaw to your truck's Rambox. You will also need to know the width of the trailer you will be pulling. You can then use this formula to find out if you can do a 90 degree turn: (A + B) - C = Clearance A = Distance from center of 5th-wheel hitch jaw to Rambox in inches B = Length of Sidewinder...
