Features to know about

Built for Heavy Loads and Long Trips: 24,000 lbs GTW and 6,000 lbs Vertical Load Limit

This hitch is built for serious towing with a 24,000-lb gross towing weight and a 6,000-lb vertical load limit. The sturdy steel construction and carbide powder coat finish give it the durability needed for long hauls and years of use. It provides a solid, stable connection that feels secure even when hauling big fifth wheels across rough terrain.

Quiet, Locked-In Connection: Dual Jaw System with 360-Degree Contact

The rounded, two-piece jaw wraps completely around the king pin for full 360-degree contact. That tight hold cuts down on rattle and movement compared to slide-bar models, giving you a quieter, smoother pull. When it’s hooked up, it feels rock solid so you can tow with confidence instead of hearing metal clank every time the road changes.

Know Exactly When You’re Coupled: Three-Point Color Indicator System

A quick glance tells you everything you need to know before hitting the road. The color-coded indicator shows red when uncoupled, yellow when ready to couple, and green when locked in for towing. It’s visible from the cab or beside the truck, so there’s no second-guessing whether the jaws are properly latched.

Smooth Hookup on Uneven Ground: Spherical Axial Bearing with 360-Degree Pivot

This hitch head pivots on a spherical axial bearing that allows smooth movement in every direction—not just front-to-back or side-to-side. That means easier alignment when backing up and less stress on both truck and trailer over dips or uneven spots. Built-in cushioning absorbs road shock for a steadier ride mile after mile.

Easy to Handle When You’re Done Towing: Two-Pin Head Removal and Included Lube Plate

When it’s time to clear the bed, pull two pins to remove the head by yourself—no special tools needed. The included plastic lube plate keeps the king pin gliding smoothly during hookup and helps reduce wear on contact surfaces. It’s a simple setup that makes towing prep and teardown faster every time you use it.

Video Transcript for Curt Q24 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch: The Breakdown

Today we'll be reviewing the Curt Q24 fifth wheel trailer hitch with dual jaws, rated at 24,000 lbs. It's part number C16245. This Curt fifth wheel hitch is made from sturdy steel with a durable carbide powder coat finish. It has a gross towing weight capacity of 24,000 lbs., and a vertical load capacity of 6,000 lbs. The height adjustment range is 13" to 17", and it's all covered by a 10-year warranty. We'll go ahead and install our fifth wheel onto our rales.

With the weight of this 5th wheel, you'll need an extra set of hands to help put it into place. We'll now use the four pins and clips to secure the hitch into the rails. We'll slide the pins through the rails and hitch feet here, and install the clip on the other side. As you can see, with the pin in place, the fifth wheel is secure. Now we'll repeat this with the other pins.

With all of our pins in place, we can now go over some of the features of the Q24 fifth wheel hitch. This fifth wheel is equipped with a dual jaw locking system, which provides 360 degrees of contact between the jaw and the king pin. Another great features is the top plate has 360 degrees of movement, side to side, front to back, and diagonal. This fifth wheel also has a 3-point indicator system in which everything is color coded to let you know when your hitch is coupled, uncoupled, and ready to tow. It's also visible from within the cab of the truck.

This hitch also has 4" of height adjustment to help better fit the height of your trailer. You can see these two holes here, which are two points of adjustment. At this time, we have it set at the second set of adjustment points underneath. Another great feature of this fifth wheel is the ability to fit almost all industry standard rails, such as Draw-Tite, Hidden Hitch, Reese, ProSeries, Valley, and of course the Curt rails. Keep in mind thought that specific rails are not included with this fifth wheel.

Now that we've gone over some of the features and specs, we'll now demonstrate how this fifth wheel hitch works. For demonstration purposes, we'll be using this king pin simulator to show you how it works. To uncouple the trailer, there's a pin located on the back side of this lever, which will flip out and undo. We'll flip out this lever and pull out our handle, which will allow the king pin to move out of the jaws. You can see the red bar here as well as the red dot and the color indicator, which tells us we're in the uncoupled position. Moving the handle one section in, the indicator is now yellow, which means we're ready to couple the trailer. Again using the trailer simulator, we'll slide it into position. You'll see now that the indicator is in the green position, which tells us we're ready to tow. Now we can lock the handle back in place with this lever and clip. Now we're ready to head down the road. And there you have it for the Curt Q24 fifth wheel hitch, part number C16245.

I’m very happy with the ease of ordering and the information videos that Curt had available before I made my purchase. When I received myQ24 hitch it was great quality and very easy to assemble it also works better than expected.
Thank you etrailer

Perfect above and beyond my expectation and very reasonable priced.

by: Quinton01/20/2021

Easy to use. Hook up is smooth. The draw handle pulls easily when ready to disconnect. Just be sure to have the weight of the trailer off of the truck before trying to pull the handle. I have found that the handle does not always lock in the open position and occasionally needs to be held open as the truck is driven forward.

Working great. To update about the handle not always locking open: This was due to operator error, I was not properly engaging the latch catch.

by: hotrod3804/07/2016

Arrived timely in a very well protected carton. Handled shipping better than any other 150 lb item I received in a cardboard box. There are a few small scratches but nothing that some minor touch-up (semi-gloss?) won't take care of. Was able to put it together alone and install in the mounting rails in about 30 minutes. Heavier than my old 15k hitch but not so heavy I can't position it alone. May enlist help when it's time to put it away in the fall.

A full season of use and couldnt be happier. This hitch absorbs most highway chuck and is surprisingly quiet.

by: Ron04/16/2014

Very strong hitch. I like that it easily can be taken apart, makes it not so heavy to install. Glad it has grease fittings, should last longer. Positive indication of locking to kingpin. Came within 2 days of placing the order.
Dual jaws give a sense of security.

Works well, good workmanship, good materials, good value. I hope to use it for years to come.

by: Les08/21/2016

I received this box four days later than the hitch mount box, but that was due to the shipping company, not E-trailer! I assembled and installed the hitch, yet removed in preparation for the spray-in bed liner. It's easy to assemble and seperate into two more manageable pieces. Can't wait to start hauling the RV!

Still using and I really like the hitch and other items I purchased a year ago. After installing the Curt fifthwheel hitch, Ive used it several times and I will be using it a bunch over rbe next several weeks. Easy to maintain and use.

by: Jeffery09/18/2018

Excellent product. It allows you to choose between gooseneck and 5th wheel towing without having to destroy a factory installed gooseneck hitch! So glad I purchased this hitch! I would definitely purchase it again if I needed to!

by: Jon L.09/06/2016

We had a short bed Ram 2500 and upgraded to a Ram 3500 Dually. We had a Demco Auto slide hitch in the old truck that worked well but I wanted to get back to basics without all the moving parts and noise. This hitch performed beyond my expectations. I couldn't be more happy! And as usual the Etrailer experiance was exceptional! 3 day delivery right to the place I was having it installed and in excellent condition. If only the rest of my life could move so smoothly!!!!!

The customer service is excellent, and the staff at etrailer knows their stuff. I watch all of the RV-related YouTube videos. I discount/ignore the not-so-bright influencers. When I see a product that would be of value, I log onto etrailer and order it.

by: JP09/22/2016

Looks great, installed easy. Had a few scratches from shipping but it's a tool so it's not a big deal. Very happy.

by: Brian11/06/2020

Just installed the new hitch and haven’t used it yet, only thing I wish I knew I needed the power accessories to install. I figured that maybe would have came with it. But great product overall.

by: Sean03/20/2024

Truly happy with this product and can't wait to go to work! etrailer sent me everything I requested and the installer had no problems. Everything was packed well in shipping with no problems.

by: Kenneth d10/09/2018

The Hitch was very good quality very easy to install in the 2018 Dodge Ram Total installation by myself was under an hour I plan on using it to move travel trailers fifth wheels around for people

by: Brett01/29/2017

Received my hitch very quickly, two days with free shipping. However, the hitch did arrive with a couple scraps. The company needs to work on the packaging and shipping prep. That being said, I am very happy with the hitch and the company. I called them prior to buying it and they answered all my questions, very helpful. I'd definitely buy another product from them.

by: John S.07/08/2016

We took it to a shop to have it installed. It looks great, and the features to make sure our 5th wheel is securely locked in place give us peace of mind. And it's nice that the rails are made just for our 2016 Ram 3500 long bed. It really is well made and is a brute. Can't wait to get out on the road.

Hitch works amazing ! I have owned about a dozen different 5th wheel hitches and this one is the easiest to use and tell it 100 locked on the trailer

by: David A02/18/2017

Ordered my Curt 24k 5th wheel hitch on Tuesday, received around 230 Friday, and was installed by 5pm same day ( already had the rails). I am anxious to hook up my Heartland Big Country 3650RL to my 2006 Chevrolet dually and roll down the highway.
The hitch is alI i expected it to be, and it is quite heavy, but managed to get it installed by myself after reading the great installation instructions. As in other posts, slight scratches during shipping due to packing materials used by Curt, not etrailer's fault.
My RV has a tongue weight of 2350 lbs, 14000 overall, and 39'6" lenghth. Expectations are high that this hitch will handle it well! Thanks for the great service

by: Gary R.06/10/2016

Haven't towed with it yet,but looks like it will be more user friendly than my previous hitch.I had to adjust my rails a little to get it to fit.Shipping speed was excellent. While etrailer wrapped and stapled over the manufacturer box the contents when opened had several places where the paint was missing due to parts rubbing together during shipment.

by: Lloyd C.11/07/2016

Got my Curt Q24 finally. A very good, quality, heavy hitch. It was just a little scratched up, in same spots as all others seems to post - do to shipping by UPS. Etrailer did double box it to help, so all in all it wasn't bad. It is definitely a heavy hitch, but being able to quickly break it into pieces (head removes easily) makes it much more manageable to put in and out of the truck. Can't wait for the trailer to get in so I can try out this hitch...
Installed onto Curt rails in a 2006 F350, with no issue. Will be pulling a 18k 43' 5er soon!
Shipping was a bit on the slow side compared to other reviews - took 2 weeks to get it, but luckily my trailer is also delayed so I didn't need it immediately.

by: Greg06/08/2026

Like the way hitch latches and easybto install

by: Mike12/11/2018

I bought this hitch because I am a firm believer in buy heavier than I need for safety. This hitch has been absolutely wonderful. The fifth wheel pull great with no jarring and the solid feel when attached is comforting. I can easily reach everything I need to set the hitch and lock it. The jaws are very easy to tell if I am completely hooked or not and the lock works great for a quick look to tell if ready. This hitch was very well priced (cheaper than lighter rated models) without being of "cheap" quality. I have enjoyed this hitch very much and thank goodness it breaks down into pieces for removal as it is a very heavy unit.

by: Michael07/30/2020

I love dealing with Etrailer, unit came in one piece and early......and OMG this hitch is incredible!! 4 bolts and it's in. I hitched up literally in minutes. CURT makes it idiot proof...

Honestly, this is the best hitch I have ever bought. Hitching up is simple and its definitely a better buy then anything else in its class.

by: Paula07/09/2018

Have not had the opportunity to use the new hitch to pull our RV, but did hook up to the RV to check height and ease of hookup, it's great, very happy with this hitch so far.
Ease of ordering was excellent, received it within 5 days in great condition.

In the last year we have pulled a 16,000 lb Jayco 5th Wheel over 3,200 miles, up and down mountains and across flat lands with no problems. Still easy hookup and no troubles with it latching or in latching. We grease it and re-torque the bolts as per manufacturer recommendation, a little routine preventive maintenance goes a long way. Still very happy with the hitch, and would definitely recommend it, and have several times.

by: Joey07/30/2025

Great product. YouTube video was a big help with installation. I paired the curt custom 5th wheel mounting kit with etrailers airlift 5000 air bags and tows my 28' 5th wheel camper like a dream!

by: Dwayne B09/11/2020

I purchased a higher rated (weight) Curt hitch to prevent 'rolling' forward during hard stops. The new hitch far exceeds my trailer weight but I continue to have the problem, although not as often. I had the new hitch professionally installed.

It turned out the Curt hitch was not the problem, it was the pinbox which ultimately failed and was replaced by that manufacturer in June.

very nice hitch , shipped relay fast 3 days to east coast, easy to install : had rails from old hitch,
it did come a LITTLE scratched up from shipping . one thing i wish it had more height / it does sit lower than old hitch buy 1 inch. haven't tried pulling yet / will up date latter . hope it pulls as good as it looks.
now no problem for bigger trailer, i hope! maybe a toy hauler?

  • Troubleshooting Sticking Jaws on Curt Q24 5th Wheel Hitch C16245
I am sorry to hear about your problem with your Curt Q24 5th wheel hitch # C16245. With a trailer as large and heavy as a 42-foot Montana it will be critical to have the trailer and truck on level ground and in a straight line with each other for all coupling and uncoupling processes. Any tension between the king pin and the hitch's jaw will make it difficult for the jaw mechanism to open to release the king pin. The Q24 has a color indicator system that tells you the status of the hitch,...

  • Problem with Curt 5th Wheel Hitch Not Easily Releasing Pin To Disconnect
I reached out to my contact at Curt and walked him through your issue and process to disconnect. He said the issue sounds like you are taking too much weight off of the hitch. The hitch needs a certain amount of weight on it to function correctly and release the lower portion of the king pin. You may want to try a little more weight on the hitch and a bit less on the jacks. He also recommended that when unhitched to check the connection and disconnection with either a plastic king...

  • Comparing Andersen Ultimate and PullRite SuperLite 5th Wheel Hitches
The Andersen Ultimate Conneection 5th Wheel Hitch System with Adapter # AM3200 and the PullRite SuperLite Fifth Wheel Hitch referenced in your question have a very similar design. We do not currently carry PullRite products so I am a little less familiar with this model, but I was able to gather some information from the manufacturer in order to compare the two units. Both hitches feature an extremely lightweight construction. The hitch itself on the Andersen Ultimate weighs only 40 pounds,...

  • Is My Curt Q24 5th Wheel Hitch Compatible With My Rota-Flex Pin Box?
That is correct, your Curt Q24 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # C16245 is not compatible with Rota-Flex pin boxes like the Trailair Rota-Flex 5th Wheel Pin Box # LC328330. This is due to the pivoting system in the pin box and the pivoting system in the hitch head working against each other which can ultimately lead to the hitch head failing. Instead, your only other option is to replace your pin box, or replace your 5th wheel hitch with something that is compatible with your pin box. I recommend...

  • How to Lock Fifth Wheel Hitch to Truck Bed
For a Curt Q24 bed rail mounted hitch, you'd just need a Curt 5th wheel hitch pin lock, part # C23256. Simply replace one of the existing pins with the # C23256 lock, and you'll be good to go. I've linked to a product description video for the Curt locking pin I recommended.

  • Where are the Grease Fittings for the Curt Q24 Hitch
Curt recommends for the Q24 that you lubricate before each individual use and every 1,000 miles thereafter. Black graphite grease is recommended for the jaw. For a grease gun the part # L30416 would work great since it has a flexible line.

  • Recommended Fifth Wheel Hitch for Un-Level Terrain
For hitching and unhitching on uneven terrain, the Curt Q24 you mentioned, part # C16245 would be ideal for you. The hitch features a spherical axial bearing that allows the hitch a full 360 degree tilt, not just side-to-side and front-to-back. This will lessen the chance of the hitch binding on the king pin. The Curt Custom Fifth Wheel Hitch Install Bracket Kit you mentioned, part # C16411-204 would be the correct install kit for your truck. In order to install the fifth wheel hitch,...

  • Are Curt Q24 and Air RIde 5th Wheel Pin Box Compatible With 2024 GMC 3500 Short Bed
It sounds like you might already have a Q24 from your old setup and would like to use it with your 2024 GMC 3500. The fixed Q24 # C16245 (for above bed rails) or # C37FR (for OEM prep package) will fit if you have the short bed. However, you are going to run into clearance issues. A short bed typically requires a sliding 5th wheel hitch or rotating pin box. The Q24 is not compatible with a rotating pin box so using the Curt R24 Round Tube Slider for Q24 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches # C16570...

  • How Does Jaw Mechanism of Curt Q24 Hitch Open and Lock
The handle/release design of the Curt Q24 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # C16245 is supposed to work like a ratchet almost. You pull out and release once and the handle should show yellow which means the jaws are unlocked and ready to accept a king pin. Once a king pin passes through the jaws it will lock into place and the handle will show green meaning you are safe to tow. Then to release it you pull the handle and release it and the jaws will unlock, the handle will show the color red, and...

  • Can I Upgrade to a Higher Capacity 5th Wheel Hitch without Upgrading the Installation Rails
Assuming that you've got industry standard rails like the Reese Universal Base Rails and Installation Kit for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches # RP30035 you won't have a problem adding another 5th wheel hitch with a higher capacity. The base rails will be able to handle any weight that you throw at them within the capacities of your tow vehicle, so upgrading to a larger 5th wheel hitch won't be an issue assuming it is designed to fit in the same industry standard base rails. With that said,...

  • What is the Best Truck for Towing a 5th Wheel Trailer
You are doing the right thing by doing the research first. There is a lot of conflicting information out there so let me break it down for you and I will provide some part recommendations at the end. Basically, if you want to tow a 5th wheel trailer, the best trucks are going to be long bed 3/4 or 1 tons like a Ford F-250/F-350, Chevy/GMC 2500/3500, or Ram 2500/3500. Half ton trucks could work but are not nearly as capable as the larger trucks. A long bed for sure is something you will...
