Recommended Replacement Axle To Fit 205/75R15 Tires On 5x8 Ultra-Tow Aluminum Trailer

Question:

Hi - I just purchased 2 Kenda Karrier ST205/75R15 Radial Trailer Tire w/ 15inch Silver Mod Wheel - 5 on 4-1/2 - LR D They look great and I thought I did the measurements right for my 5x8foot Ultra-Tow Aluminum trailer but the tires are too wide and hit the trailer frame. I am trying to figure out if I should exchange the tires for a smaller set of tires or I maybe open to the idea of getting a longer more heavy duty axle for the trailer since the original one I have is only rated for 1715lbs. I would be open to getting a longer Ultra-Tow axle rated for 3500 lbs that could then fit the tires I just purchased. Thanks in advance for any guidance you all can give.

I would be happy to go over the available options.

Starting with changing the axle I recommend going with the Timbren Heavy-Duty Axle-Less Trailer Suspension 2,200 lbs # ASR1THDS01 which would give you 6" from the hub face to the trailer frame which is plenty for the ST205/75R15 wheel and tire combination you purchased. You could go with a 3500lb option but there is not a hub available for it with a 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern, and since you would be quite a bit under the weight you would have a harsher ride. Keep in mind that changing the axles to a heavier duty option will not increase the GVWR of the trailer, as you are limited by the lowest rated component which would now be the frame

For a hub assembly you would need the # AKIHUB-545-35-EZ-K which will give you the 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern you need, and includes the bearings, races, grease seal, grease cap, and lug nuts required to complete the installation.

Another option would be to use narrower tires like the Karrier ST175/80R13 Radial Trailer Tire w/ 13" White Mini Mod Wheel - 5 on 4-1/2 - Load Range D # AM31991which are over 1" narrower and would give you the frame clearance you need.

I included videos for each of the products mentioned for you to take a look at.
