Recommendation to Replace 205/75R14 Tires on Mallard Camper

Updated 09/29/2025 | Published 04/26/2025

Question:

Is it possible to get this combination tire and wheel with a Load Range E. I see A225R645WQM is a Load Range D 8 ply tire, was looking for the 10 ply tire Load range on this Rim. Currently Running a 205/75R14 Load Range D 2040 lbs.. 2 Blow outs last weekend looking for aq larger tire and wheel combination that might hold up better. Just bought the 2022 Mallard 27 and this was our second shorty trip out. GVW Loaded about 7000 lbs., dry weight 5650. trailer definitely not overloaded. Possible these were the original tires and just dry rotted, just trying to keep that from happening again.

Hi Jeff!

So the only combo with the 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern we have that provides that Load Range E rating is the Taskmaster Provider # TA56AR. It doesn't look like that tire is available by itself, either. This would certainly give you more than enough capacity with its 2,830 pound rating, but other than extra peace of mind (which is indeed valuable), I'm not sure you really need to upgrade.

The Provider # A225R645WM you were looking at is still going to give you a combined load rating of 10,160 pounds. Tire blowouts are the absolute worst, but your most recent nightmare didn't happen because the tires were overloaded. It's much more likely that there was some dry rot, or it's even possible that they weren't inflated properly. You'll always want to make sure to inflate them at the stated psi, which would be 65 psi for this particular set.

If it were me I'd be perfectly fine running this combo on the trailer. Keep them properly inflated and when it's stored out in the sun, protect them with some covers like the Classic Accessories # 052963762402 to help prevent that dry rot over time.

Do you have your next trip planned?

Hi Jeff! Did you decide to go with the Taskmaster Provider tire and wheel combo, or did you stick with the Provider you were considering? I'm asking because your experience could really help others who are trying to avoid similar issues with their trailers.

@ChrisR I ordered the Provider and Wheel Combo ST225 /75R15. So far so good, Plenty of Room to install on a Heartland Mallard

@JeffB Fantastic! Thanks for coming back to share. Is it close to storage time for the camper or do you travel through the cold months too?
