How to Trim the Cap in Step Bumper of 2017 Chevy Silverado 1500
Published 07/12/2019 >
Question:
My truck has a hitch mounted under the bumper, however the fascia of the bumper does not have a hole through it. It has an imprint like it should be cut out but I am wondering how to go about cutting it out? The hitch is rated for 5,000 lbs so I know I can put a ball through, I just think it’s odd that it’s not pre cut. I have uploaded some pics as well. Thank you!

Thanks for the photo, that made it much easier for me to know what you were referring to. In order to remove that plastic cap on the step bumper of your 2017 Chevy Silverado 1500 you can use something as simple as a razor.
In fact, if you go to about the 4:15 mark of the video I linked, you can see our installer use a razor to remove this exact part of the step bumper on a 2017 Silverado 1500. The video is an installation of the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch # 75866 on a '17 Silverado which requires the removal of that same part of the step bumper and it shows you exactly what you need to do.
