Comparing a Galvanized to a Coated/Painted Trailer Wheel
Question:
Ive an old NUWAY model # NW13848 trailer made by Nuway, which is a dissolved division of bankrupted and dissolved Martin Industries Inc. Need 2 rims. Question 1: Do galvanized rims resist corrosion around the wheel/tire seal better/longer than painted rims? Question 2: Considering that tires need replaced ever 5 to 6 years, and the cost of removing old tires and mounting of new tire, as well as the cost of new tire In your opinion What is lowest cost option, [Galvanized wheels, along with cost of new tires and mounting or replacement with combination of painted and mounted tires]?

Yes, a galvanized wheel will resist rust and corrosion better than a painted/coated wheel. This will apply to both the bead seat and face. In regards to cost, if you do not have access to a tire mounting machine or the means to use one for that matter, you will save money by purchasing the wheel and tire pre mounted as opposed to purchasing the wheel and tire separately and then having a shop mount them. Typically, a galvanized wheel will run more than a standard painted/coated wheel. However, if you have a boat trailer and will be frequently launching it in water, a galvanized wheel will be your best option. If you just have a standard travel trailer then a painted/coated wheel will suffice.
In order to recommend the correct wheel/tire combo, I would need a bit of information such as the size of the tire you currently have, the bolt pattern of your current wheels, and the approximate weight of the trailer. Once you can provide me with this info I would be glad to offer my recommendation. In the meantime, I have attached a list of possible options for you.
