How To Test A 7 Pole To 4-Way Adapter

My 2013 Titan came with the complete tow package. The 7 pin plug was already installed. I could never get the trailer lights working once I went from my old Chevy to the Titan. The dealership got me the proper 7 to 4 way flat adapter which is identical to the one for my former truck and neither will work. I tested each of the 7 pins on the truck and found that the one at the top right at 1 oclock, has the main power feed however, that pin plugs into a blank spot on the adapter. Could it be that the original truck wiring was done incorrectly?

The first thing I would do is remove the adapter and test the pin outs on the factory 7-way of the vehicle side using a circuit tester like part # PTW2993. Once you have established that all connectors are functioning properly, you will want to re-install the adapter and test the 4-way pin outs to ensure they are also functioning properly. If all connection points on the 7-way and 4 to 7-way adapter are in working order, you may have a problem on the trailer end.
In order to test all the functions of the vehicle's connector, you will need a helper. While one of you is in the vehicle with the ignition on, you will want to run through all the light functions of the harness to ensure you are receiving the proper readings from the circuit tester. For example, identify which pin/wire is responsible for the left turn signal. Once identified using the attached diagram, activate the left turn signal from the vehicle while using the circuit tester to test that specific wire to ensure it is receiving a charge.
There is also a chance that the adapter could be bad and you would need to replace it. I recommend using the Pollak 7 Pole to 4 Way Connector Adapter part # PK12716.
I have attached a photo that will display the proper connections of a 7-way harness.
