How large of a tire can I put on the 8 inch rim of my trailer 4.80x8 on now?

For your rim that has a 4.80x8 tire installed on it you could go up to the 5.70-8 size tire like the part # AM10012.

This tire will be 2 inches taller in overall diameter.

What you found is a DOT number and not a speed rating. I was able to figure out which tire you have and it's a Loadstar 4.80-12 that has a 65 mph speed rating. In this size we have a tire that can go 81 mph as part #TT48012C.

In order to determine the torque rating for the lug nuts on your trailer you will need to know check out the chart I attached that shows all of the torque specs for all the trailer lugs available based on stud size, wheel material and wheel size.
