What our customers are saying:

received my Hidden Hitch trailer hitch for my 2000 Buick LeSabre yesterday and put it on the vehicle last night. I just wanted to send you a note telling you how pleased I was with the ease of installation and the perfect fit of the unit. It only took about 25 Minutes from start to finish and it tucks up nice and close to the bumper. Thanks Brian

Today on our 2013 BMW X5, we'll be installing the "Draw-Tite Class III Max Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver," part number 75600. All right, here's what our hitch looks like installed. As you can see, it's completely hidden behind our bumper cover. The only part you see hanging down is the actual 2-inch receiver itself and the safety chain loops right here on the bottom of the receiver. These safety chain loops are really easy to use, since they're a round tubular design. You can even hook in the smallest diameter safety chains in there without a problem. This Class III hitch is rated for a max gross trailer weight rating of 6,000 pounds and a max tongue weight rating of 600 pounds.

Today on this 2008 BMW X5, we're going to show you the Hidden Hitch Class III 2-inch receiver hitch, part number 87455. This is what the hitch looks like when it's installed on the X5 from BMW. There's not much to see. It's just a receiver that sits right below the bumper. It has a 2-inch opening right here with a rounded collar, kind of softens the edge up a little bit, and if we look further back onto the receiver opening here, we have 2 holes. Your ball mount and your accessories will always use a 5/8 of an inch hitch pin hole.

From the center of the hitch pin hole to the outermost edge of the bumper is approximately 3 1/2 inches and from the top of the opening in the receiver to the ground is approximately 14 inches. Now let's go ahead and install our hitch. To install this hitch, we're going to need to remove the lower fascia off the rear of the vehicle. • Trailer Hitch and Wiring for a 2017 BMW X5
  • For your 2017 BMW X5 a popular hitch option is the Draw-Tite hitch # 75600. This is a 2 inch hitch rated for 6,000 pounds gross trailer weight and 600 pounds tongue weight. I have included a link to a video showing an example installation for you. I also recommend etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts; one with a 3/4 inch rise or 2 inch drop and one with a 2-3/4 inch rise or 4 inch drop. It also includes a 1-7/8 inch ball, 2 inch ball, hitch pin with clip, and...

If you've never installed a trailer hitch or vehicle wiring, or you do not have much mechanical experience, the installation of any of the hitch and wiring options for your 2016 BMW X5 can be difficult as both installations are involved. For a trailer hitch, I recommend the Draw-Tite Class III Max Frame Receiver Hitch # 75600. This trailer hitch features a 2 inch hitch receiver with a tongue weight capacity of 600 pounds...

  • Trailer Hitch and Bike Rack Recommendation for a 2016 BMW X5
  • To answer your last question first...I would strongly recommend going with a hitch mounted bike rack option over a trunk mounted option. Hitch racks offer a more secure connection that does not touch any painted surfaces. This is especially important on a brand new BWM like your 2016 BMW X5. For carrying a bike rack the best hitch for your vehicle is going to be the Draw Tite part # 75600. The Curt requires the use of a stabilizer strap when you carry a bike rack and the Hidden Hitch...

  • The fact that the ball mount was a little loose in the previous Curt hitch you had was more a product of manufacturing tolerances than it was an indication that the Curt hitch was lacking in quality in some way. Both the inside dimension of the receiver tube and the outside dimension of the ball mount's shank are manufactured so that they fall into a given range or tolerance. The receiver tube will always be a bit larger than 2 inches square, while the ball mount or accessories' shank...

  • Removing Rear Bumper Fascia from a 2012 BMW X5 For Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Installation
  • You are correct, I checked the instructions and the revision currently provided with the hitch, part # 75600, were done in 2008. I spoke with my technical contact at Draw-Tite and he said that his engineering department now has some directions photos that show additional steps that may be required for 2011 and newer BMW X5 vehicles. I will list them out for you and I have added photos that my contact sent for you to see. 1) Remove the first 3 rivets from the rear fender flare, and pop...

  • What Rear Bumper Modifications are Required to Install a Draw-Tite Hitch on a 2012 BMW X5
  • You will need to remove a few screws and fasteners to remove a section of the rear fascia to install the Draw-Tite Hitch # 75600, and you will need to trim a section out of the rear fascia. Check out the pictures that I attached that show the areas where the bolts and fasteners are, I also attached installation instructions for this product for you to check out, the section that needs to be trimmed is outlined in a diagram in these instructions. Here are the steps for removing the...

  • Why Does my Draw-Tite Have two Hitch Pin Holes on my 2012 BMW X5
  • The pin you should be using is the larger one. The purpose for the second hole is for using a Tow Ready J-Pin Stabilization Pin # 63201. Check out the picture I attached that shows this product being installed on a hitch that is similar to yours. I also attached a review for this product that shows how it works. I would not recommend you use the smaller hole even though it seems to offer a smooth ride for you. Since you have a Thule rack you should be able to just tighten up the threaded...

  • Using an Electric Trailer Brake Controller With Boat Trailer Hydraulic Brakes
  • The 2012 BMW X5 has a rated towing capacity of 6000-lbs according to my research and for this vehicle we offer several Class III hitches (viewable on the link provided) that share this same maximum towing capacity, along with a tongue weight limit of 600-lbs. Note that these hitches do not fit the M model. You'll want to be sure that your fully-loaded boat/trailer does not exceed the towing or tongue weight capacities of either the vehicle or the hitch (your hitch should have a sticker...

  • Locating Replacement Plastic Rivets for Installing Draw-Tite Class III Hitch on 2012 BMW X5
  • My Draw-Tite representative tells me that the only place he's aware of that carries the push rivets that secure the wheel well molding is a BMW dealer. He wasn't aware of any online source for obtaining them. If you click the provided link you can see a video showing the hitch being installed on a 2012 BMW X5.

  • Trailer Hitch, Wiring & Brake Controller for 2012 BMW X5
  • Both of the 2-inch Class III hitches we have for your 2012 BMW X5, Draw-Tite # 75600 and Curt # 13077, are fairly involved installations as hitches go. The linked video illustrates the installation of the Draw-Tite hitch on a 2012 X5. This hitch is rated for a maximum towing capacity of 6000-lbs but you will want to check your BMW owner's manual to confirm the towing capacity for your particular X5d as equipped from the factory. Engine and transmission options can affect a vehicle's towing...

  • Clarifying Installation Instructions for Trailer Hitches on a 2012 BMW X5
  • Yes, you are correct. Curt's # 13077 instructions state to discard the steel bumper beam and fasteners while the Draw-Tite # 75600 has you reinstall them. For this reason, I would highly recommend the Draw-Tite hitch over the Curt hitch for your 2012 BMW X5. I have linked both the product and an installation video of it being installed on a 2012 BMW X5 to this page for your viewing and purchasing convenience.

  • The Draw Tite Hitch part # 75600 has been confirmed as a fit for your 2012 BMW X5 but for models after the 2011 year will have to obtain new push rivets from a BMW dealer. The supplied ones will not work unfortunately. I attached an install video that shows this hitch being installed in a 2012 X5 just like yours.

  • If you click the provided link, you can see a video of the Draw-Tite # 75600 being installed on a 2011 BMW X5. The only difference you'll have is that the push rivets included with the hitch will NOT work on your vehicle, due to slight changes in the vehicle design. You'll need to obtain the rivets from your BMW dealer. I've also linked to the manufacturer's instructions.

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for a 2011 BMW X5 That Requires Minimal Trimming
  • There are three trailer hitches available for your 2011 BMW X5. The only installation differences that you will run into will be with the Curt hitch. Draw-Tite and Hidden Hitch are sister companies and their hitches are identical. We have not had the chance to install the Curt Class III Trailer Hitch, # 13077, on a 2011 BMW X5 yet, but based on the design of the hitch, I would assume the Curt hitch would require the least amount of trimming. The Curt hitch only has a 2-1/2 inch wide...

  • Trailer Hitch and Weight Distribution for a 2011 BMW X5 35d
  • Draw-Tite trailer hitch # 75600 is rated for use with weight distribution. I tried to find towing capacity and information in the 2011 BMW X5 owners manual but could not (because it isn't listed). You can check the sticker in the door jamb to confirm but I did find a listed capacity of 6,000 pounds gross trailer weight through another resource. To choose a weight distribution system you will need to go by the total tongue weight of the set up. This is calculated by taking the tongue...

  • Trailer Hitch and Wiring Recommendation for a 2011 BMW X5
  • If your 2011 BMW X5 was originally from Germany then the hitch fits we offer aren't going to be guaranteed to fit since everything we offer is only confirmed to fit US spec vehicles. Is your BMW right or left hand drive? If the vehicle is left hand drive like US cars are and was intended for use in the US the Draw Tite Hitch part # 75600 would be a confirmed fit. For trailer wiring you would want the part # 119190KIT which is a confirmed fit for US vehicles as well. I attached an install...

  • Hitch and Bike Rack Recommendation for a 2011 BMW X5
  • A hitch mounted bike rack would be a great option for your 2011 BMW x5. If you don't have a hitch you will first need to start with one. For that I would recommend the Draw Tite Hitch part # 75600. I attached an install video for you to check out as well. For a bike rack I would recommend the Swagman XTC2 Bike Rack part # S64670. This is a great 2 bike rack that our customers have left a ton of positive reviews for. Check out the review video to the right for more info.

  • Trailer Hitch Availability for 2011 BMW X5 M-Sport Model
  • The Class III Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch you referenced, part # 75600, is not a fit for your particular M-Sport version, as you noted. The same applies to the Hidden Hitch and Curt hitches made for the X5. Usually the reason for these fit exclusions has to do with trim components like the fascia or with a specialized exhaust that blocks the frame's hitch installation access points. If these (or other) components would require extensive trimming or alteration of the vehicle's styling package...

  • Trailer Wiring Harness Recommendation and Installation Process on 2011 BMW X5
  • Of the three 4-pole wiring harness products made for your 2011 BMW X5 the Curt harness # C59236 is a good choice for its higher maximum current output, which is 5-amps for each stop/turn circuit and 7.5-amps for the running lights. I linked an article that will help you with the routing of the harness 12V power wire which is where it will draw its actual power for your trailer lights. I also linked a video (showing a different harness) and your installation for the Curt will be identical...

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for a 2011 BMW X5
  • We do have several trailer hitches available for the 2011 BMW X5 but there are currently none available for the 2011 X3. The available trailer hitches for the X5 are all Class III, 2 inch trailer hitches. An Invisi-Hitch is not available. There are many distinct advantages to a Class III trailer hitch over a Class I like the # 28501 that you have referenced. First, a class I trailer hitch has a low tongue weight and gross trailer weight capacity, only 200/2000 pounds or less. But the...

  • Ball Mount Rise Recommendation for 2010 BMW X5 Towing 18 inch Tall Trailer Coupler
  • From the top of the receiver opening down to the ground will be about 13-3/4 inches when you install the Draw Tite hitch part # 75600 on your 2010 BMW X5. So you will need a ball mount with about a 4 inch rise. The Curt Ball mount # C45070 would be perfect for that. For a 2 inch ball you would want the part # 63845 or for 2-5/16 inch ball part # 63847. For trailer wiring you then would want the part # 119250KIT which I attached an install video for.

  • Hitch, Wiring, and Brake Controller Recommendation for a 2010 BMW X5
  • The trailer hitch for your 2010 BMW X5 that you would need is the part # 13077. For trailer wiring it sounds like you are looking for a way to install a 7-way at the rear of your vehicle and you don't have any trailer wiring at all. Now if your trailer does not have brakes all you would need is the part # 37185 as an adapter to convert the 4-way to a 7-way. You would need to start with a modulate 4-way like the part # 119190KIT. If you do have trailer brakes you would need the...

  • Is Installation of a Trailer Hitch on a 2009 BMW X5 the Same as a 2011 X5

However, like you have said, it is essentially an identical installation on a 2009 as it is for the 2011 in the video, linked for reference. The reason that the installations are so similar is because a 2009 is the same generation as the 2011 though there may be some subtle differences. I have also included a link to the installation instructions for you. If you plan on doing some towing the correct ball mount is...
