Recommended Brake Assemblies For Gooseneck Trailer With Dual 7K Axles

Question:

Ok so I have a 24ft goose neck with 2 7k axles. I want to do brakes on it do I started looking and I saw that the brake assemblies for 6K axles are way cheeper then 7K axles why is that and is their a performance difference? I heard that the magnets were stronger in the 7K axles but how much stronger is it worth the extra 120 to get 4 assemblies for 7 k axles? And if the magnet is the only difference can I put 7 k magnets on 6K assemblies? Thank you,

With 7K axles on your trailer I recommend using brakes that are designed for your rig. Using 6K brakes on the trailer may not be sufficient. There are two differences between the 6k and the 7k brakes. The brake magnet regardless of the size magnet has more windings on the 7k which makes the magnet stronger. Also, the linings are constructed of different material between the 6k and 7k. The 7k material is more aggressive.

Since price is a factor for you I recommend going with less-expensive 7,000-lb brakes like the part # AKEBRK-7L-SA for the left hand and part # AKEBRK-7R-SA for the right hand. These are 12 x 2 inch brakes and are designed to fit a 5-bolt brake mounting flange.

If you were to purchase the # 23-105 and # 23-106 brakes and then brake magnets like part # BP01-225, the price would exceed the price of the 7k brakes like part # 23-180 and part # 23-181.
