- I would check the magnets for wear before going on to test them with a meter. If the magnets show abnormal wear or if you can see the windings beginning to show through the friction surface of the magnet then they will need to be replaced.

- The Trailer Brake Magnet, # BP01-225, that you have referenced is designed for use with 12 x 2 inch Dexter electric drum brakes for 7,000 pound capacity axles. A similar magnet, # BP01-180, fits Dexter 6K, Alko 6K and 7K after 1988 (excluding centerline), and Hayes 6K and 7K after 1988 (excluding centerline) 12 x 2 inch drum brakes.
Both magnets have 1 wire for ground, and 1 for power and it does not matter which wire is used for either function.

- The SH code you are seeing indicates that there is a shorted circuit on the brake output circuit of your trailer wiring. Most likely you pinched a wire somewhere on your trailer during your installation and there is exposed wire touching the trailer frame. I would start at the brake assembly and check the wiring of everything looking for any cut, exposed wiring as well as anything else that might cause the short and fix as necessary.
