  • How to Test Electric Trailer Brake Magnets to Determine if They Need to be Replaced
  • I would check the magnets for wear before going on to test them with a meter. If the magnets show abnormal wear or if you can see the windings beginning to show through the friction surface of the magnet then they will need to be replaced. To further test your magnets, first make sure the trailer is not connected when performing this test. Both magnets have 1 wire for ground, and 1 for power and it does not matter which wire is used for either function.

  • Flashing SH on a Tekonsha Prodigy Brake Controller # 90185 Troubleshooting
  • The SH code you are seeing indicates that there is a shorted circuit on the brake output circuit of your trailer wiring. Most likely you pinched a wire somewhere on your trailer during your installation and there is exposed wire touching the trailer frame. I would start at the brake assembly and check the wiring of everything looking for any cut, exposed wiring as well as anything else that might cause the short and fix as necessary. I attached installation instructions for the Prodigy Brake
