We carry several replacement trailer brake magnets that are all designed to fit specific models of brake assemblies. If yours don't seem to be close enough to the armature surface of the hub then it would seem that you do not have the correct magnets or your hub isn't seated all the way on the spindle.

I attached a link to a page that has all of the brake magnets we carry. You would want to select the brand and brake assembly size from the filters on the page and the correct ones will be listed.
