This winch performs even better than expected. In the photo you will see the two I have ordered from etrailer. The one on the right easily raises a 50 foot crank up mast from 20 feet to 50 feet vertically (3 nested sections) with a 150 pound antenna load at the top, with no issues using only a battery powered hand drill. The winch on the left will also enable me to tilt the entire tower over horizontally to the ground for servicing (over 400 total pounds) and then raise it back up vertically using the same hand drill. The worm drive gearing is excellent.

by:

The product is exactly as described and works great. The quality of the product is excellent and it arrived well lubricated. While etrailer shipped the part on time USPS lost the the winch and once it was determined that the first winch was lost etrailer shipped a replacement which arrived in 2 days.

I am very impressed with the operation and durability of these worm gear winches. I've been raising and lowering platforms weighing between 300 and 1500 lbs through a 4 1/2 foot range (pulleys) with confidence and without issue. For heavier lifting, I use a corded 8.0 amp drill to speed the process. I have used the manual handle as well but it is very slow given the long length of synthetic rope (~15') I pull. It's a great emergency option for me.

by:

We use these in a product we make so we've bought over 100 units. Our products are indoors so they are in a nice climate controlled environment. Our oldest products have been out there 15 years and done hundreds of in/out's and we've never had a problem or issue with any.

by:

This Winch is being used on a 50' crank-up tower. Its holding about 350 lbs now for a year. The two tower crank up sections, a ten foot mast of 1-1/4" conduit on top of a antenna rotator with a 26' boom 4 element 3 band beam antenna, a vertical 2 meter antenna, a Sloper antenna, and 3 coaxes and a rotor control cable and grounding. All supported by this winch. Good Job.

The winch worked well for the time it was in service. The telescoping radio tower it was used on was destroyed by a storm in March 8 of this year, so it is currently not in service.

by:

Installed this winch into the front of my 20ft enclosed trailer. The winch is for the rare occasion that a vehicle or my tractor that I move with the trailer doesn't start. I tested the winch out with my 3000lb tractor and it pulled it up the ramp with ease using my cordless drill & 5/5 socket on the winch. My trailer has an aluminum frame so I was careful to protect it from dissimilar metal corrosion where the steel bolts touch the aluminum. With a snatch block doubling the winch capacity, this winch would easily pull anything into the trailer that will fit in it. You wouldn't want to do it without the cordless drill though... I am very pleased with the purchase. Jameson assisted me with all my questions.

This Dutton-Lainson worm gear winch made a great 1-man tool for hoisting and storing the camper shell for my pickup, using wire rope and pulleys. I use a cordless drill to operate the worm-drive winch. These are great products from etrailer.

Here is a picture made by combining two photos so both myself and my wife are depicted as we cooked a kettle of beans. It shows how the Dutton-Lainson Worm Gear Hand Winch enables the safe and easy adjustment of elevation for regulating the rate of boiling in a cast iron kettle suspended above our fire pit. I ordered a second wench to make a similar system for a granddaughter who does much cooking over wood fire.

by:

This winch works great on my feeder lifts 350lbs no problem. This is my second one no more cranking.

Works great have one on both my fenders. No more cranking by hand.

by:

Will use it to pull upright piano up a ramp onto a trailer, pickup truck or porch. I will mount the winch on one end of a 2x6 and fasten the other end to the top of the ramp. I have another one by Maxxhaul and the quality of this DL winch seems much better, and I like that it's made here in the USA.

by:

Product met my expectations. I couldn't operate my hand crank winch. these I use my electric drill and it does the work for me.
Shipping was outstanding usually free shipping you wonder what month it is going to come. This was beyound expectations. I'm using it on a drop down trailer my ice fishing house is on.

by:

We removed these typical style winches and installed the worn gear winches in their place. I would like to attach a video showing it in action, but this site does not allow for that. Heavy duty appears to be very durable! We are using a Milwaukee 18 volt drill for raising and lowering our deer feeders. We currently have 23 of them in place. You will have to keep the drive oiled and the gear greased. Would love to see the drive gear with bearings.

by:

Fantastic product. I use it to raise and lower my 60' rohn 25g tower. With being able to use a drill & 5/8 socket it goes up and down fast.

by:

I have modified worm drive hand winches to accept a socket and they worked but apparently the gears were not hardened and would wear quickly even though I greased them thoroughly. This winch has hardened gears and the meshing of the two gears looks to be more precise. I searched everywhere and etrailer had the best price and free shipping. Haven't installed this winch yet but I'm pretty sure it will out-last the discount hardware store winch, many times over. Also I learned, Don't spin the drill fast because the gears will overheat causing wear. Slow and steady is much better than cranking by hand!!!!!!!!

The winch is a year old and has shown No signs of wear!!! A huge difference in reliability over the cheaper winch I had previously installed. Great Quality winch, Period!!!!!!

by:

Bought this hoist about a year ago to raise our kayaks out of the way in the garage. The hoist is high quality, relatively inexpensive, and has performed flawlessly. I especially like that it is a worm gear design meaning you can stop at any time and it will not try to unwind. Also, this particular one is designed with a socket drive; so, I can use my electric drill to raise and lower the kayaks. Etrailer has all the good stuff and is my go-to place for mechanical equipment.

The winch continues to work well after a year. The design and quality is much admired by all who see the set-up.

by:

I needed a hand winch that will handle a 1000 lb lift for a one of a kind antique engine lift. This winch with the worm drive is ideal for this application. The hex drive will allow for a faster lift with a power drill motor. It is well made by a ISO 9001 certified USA company. Shipping was prompt and price was reasonable. I feel confident whenever I order from etrailer that the merchandise is of the best quality.

The winch works great. The worm drive provides the mechanical advantage that i needed to make the lift safe to operate.

by:

Beautifully constructed, Nice finish, cranks easily. When the tower is up I will give a better report on crank up and down ..... Frank

by:

The WG2000 DL winch is a well made sturdy worm drive product that has unequaled value when compared with competitive products.

ETrailer offered the WG2000 at a great price with free shipping. Their customer service was outstanding.

by:

Great winch. You can count on it to work and work safely. Unlike the dangerous Harbour Freight one it replaced. I use it with a cordless drill attached to a crane, to lift my motorcycle in and out of the bed of my truck. I also used it, anchored to another crane to lift my barn trusses onto my barn. If you use it with the crank it will move slowly, but works quickly with the cordless drill. I would buy it again in a heartbeat.

Great, no complaints

by:

After one year: Very well made - I sprayed the cable I got with it - with lithium grease and after being outdoors for most of the year on my trailer it looks like new still! The worm gear set up with my high speed Milwaukee Fuel hammer drill (great torque - pro drill) works great.I use it to haul a small drift boat up and down steep inclines (drift boat for rivers - fishing) and it works well. I also added corrosion X grease to all of the winch's moving parts - New England weather is a good test for it.

by:

Great product. It is very convenient that the worm drive is self braking. A bit slow because of it though. Detachable handle is handy when you need it out of the way. We set up a 5/8 socket on a wiggle wrench for faster movement.

Worked great fro 10 months under a significant load and use 20-40 times a day.

by:

This winch has a lot of power, very smooth operation. It works great with my 1/2in battery powered drill. cable always winds perfect and tangle free. I use it to pull my 16ft jon boat out of the water on a makeshift ramp. the boat and motor is around 1000 lbs. its a very high quality winch and its made in the USA.

by:

Dutton -Lainson Hand winch worm gear Hex Drive. Hex Drive shaft make it easy to use a Hex Nut driver to speed lowering or raising load.

Ordered the Hand Winch Cable with Safety Hook 7/32" Diameter x 50' Long - 2,500 lbs. that came ready to be installed in the winch.

Fairly quick delivery to Guam.

by:

The packaging was a little funky. There was grease on the instructions. There was not a clear way for the cable to get tied to the spool (for someone that doesn't deal with this everyday). It wasn't hard to figure out how to attach the cable; I don't know if I did it right, but it works. Bottom line: The product is as good as it depicts, and with the drill attachment, life is good and easy... Just what the winch was designed to do. etrailer.com was great!

  • Recommended Boat Lift Winch For a 1,600LB Boat That Can Be Operated With a Cordless Drill
I recommend the Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch # DL11001 for your lift. This winch is rated for 2,000lbs and offers a removable handle. The removable handle uses a 5/8" socket which can easily be fitted to a cordless drill. You will need a drill adapter that will fit your 5/8" socket and your cordless drill. I highly recommend staying away from the cordless impact drills as the impacts will lead to both the rounding of the socket and damage to the gears.

  • Winch Recommendation for Lifting a 200 lb Boat 10 or 12 ft With a Drill Option
The Dutton-Lainson Worm Gear Winch, # DL11001, will work great to hoist your 200 lb boat. The hex head allows you to use either the included handle or a heavy-duty 1/2 inch drill. Worm gear winches are great for hoisting objects because they do not have a free wheel option and the load cannot reverse the direction of the winch. Dutton-Lainson recommends using 9/32 inch diameter cable.

The safe weight capacity for the Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch # DL11001 that you referenced is 2,000 lbs. As long as you stay under that weight you'd have nothing to worry about. These are rated somewhat conservatively so that you'd never have an issue if you stay under capacity, but you don't ever want to exceed 2,000 lbs with this winch.

The Dutton Lainson Worm Gear Hand Winch, # DL11001, can lift up to 2,000 lbs, so it should have no problem lifting your dock out of the water, assuming the dock does not weigh more than 2,000 lbs. Another option is the Dutton-Lainson Worm Gear Hand Winch # DL11001. This winch will automatically stop the reel whenever you stop cranking.
