Dutton-Lainson Trailer Winch - Brake Hand Winch - DL11001 Review

Today we're taking a look at the Dutton Lainson hand winch, now this is a warm gear winch that's designed for heavy duty vertical lifting applications. With this, you can crank one direction to lift and then crank the other direction to lower. The load automatically holds when the reel stops turning. It does feature a hex drive design, so that's going to let you use a cordless drill with a 5/8 inch socket, or you can use the included socket head handle to operate the unit. The mating handle can be removed easily with no tools required, it just fits over and it's ready for use. We're looking at laminated high carbon steel gears, they're heat treated for longer life. We have the heavy gauge embossed steel base for extra strength.

I'll show you the bottom real quick. You can see the mount hole pattern right there. Mounting hardware not included. It does feature permanently lubricated bearings on the drive shaft, they're maintenance free. It has a powder coated copper bronze finish to resist rust and corrosion. Product's made in the USA.

Capacity is 2,000 pounds. When it came to the overall measurements, not including the handle, I took a measurement from the very back of the unit to the very front of the unit and got a measurement of about 7.5 inches. Side to side, including the hardware, measures about six inches wide, and then from the bottom of the unit to the top of the gear is about 5.5 inches, a little bit taller if you measure to the top of the attachment point for the handle. Then the handle will also add a little bit to the height measurement as well, measuring to here or to here. Really nice design. Again, it comes lubricated.

The base on the unit, so I took measurements of just the base, front to back, put ruler on that real quick so you can see where I was measuring from, measures about 5.5 inches. Then side to side, just the base, measures about 4.5 to 4.75 inches. Now, as you can see the cable is not included, but when it comes to the maximum cable length that this will accept or work with, you can go up to 82 feet. That's with a 7/32 inch diameter cable. You can go up to 59 feet with a 1/4 inch diameter cable, or you can go up to 49 feet with a 9/32 inch cable, but doing that option will require a special reel. That's going to do it for today's look at the Dutton Lainson hand winch.
