installation instructions and specs for complete information.
Today working on 2005 Mini Cooper, were going to install a Curt Hitch part number C11126. Here are a couple of measurements that will assist you in selecting accessories for you new hitch. From the center of the hitch pinhole to the outermost point of your bumper is 5 inches and from the top of the receiver tube to the ground is 15inches. This will assist you in selecting accessories such as a drawbar, a bike rack, or a cargo carrier. Now lets go ahead with the installation. For the installation of this hitch, were going to need to remove the rear bumper.
With the use of disassembly and reinstallation, were going to go ahead and remove the spare tire and the rear wheels. Now we need to remove 11 fasteners that hold the bumper cover on. Weve got two here on the driver side, inside the rear wheel well. Well go ahead and repeat the same process on the passenger side, removing the same two fasteners. Now weve got the fasteners removed from the wheel well, we need to pull the fender flare away from the fender and a stilt screw underneath that will need to be removed.
Again were going to repeat the same process on the passenger side. Now Ive got all of fasteners removed from each side of the fenders. Were going to get up under the vehicle and weve got an 8mm bolt that need to be removed. With that removed, were going to go ahead and lower the vehicle back down and get in the hatch of the vehicle. Weve got two screws inside that will need to be removed.
You can see weve got a fastener here on the driver side and therell be an identical one on the passenger side well also remove. Now because this vehicle is a convertible, it has an actual door that opens down versus a hatch that opens up. Its got a set of hinges. Well need to remove this cover here before we can remove the bumper cover. Gently pry up and out, and then well pull from underneath and remove.
Well set that aside for reinstallation later. Now weve got the bumper cover loose, we can begin working it off the vehicle. Now we cant go too far as weve got the rear back up censors that we still need to disconnect before we can completely remove the bumper. Theres also an outer cover here on the bumper to cover the hinge. Were going to remove that also on both sides. All right, before I remove the bumper completely, Im going to go ahead and disconnect all the wiring. Ive got a running light here on the driver side connects to the fender and then weve got the backup censors. Therell be a total of four of them and Ill remove them just the same way as I did that one. With our bumper removed well go ahead and set it aside for reinstallation later. Weve got a total of 10 fasteners on both sides that need to be removed. Weve got four bolts on each side and one plastic cap. Were going to go ahead and remove those now. Im not going to completely remove that one yet as Ill get a second set of hands to help me pull the bumper cover off after we get the fasteners removed from the passenger side which Ill do now, repeating the same process as we just did here on the driver side. Now before we completely remove the bumper off the vehicle, were going to have to disconnect all the wiring. With my wires disconnected, we can pull the whole core off. Now Ive got three pieces here, the black inside piece thats called the divider, were going to take this off, set it aside as it will not be reinstalled. Weve got a foam insert and then the bumper core. With the second set of hands, were ready to go ahead and install the hitch and bumper support together. Theyll be sandwiched together and retightened with the same hardware, but were going to add a conical tooth washer with the teeth of the washer facing the bumper support. Install our fasteners finger tight until we have them all in place. Now weve got the four in our driver side, repeat the same process on the passenger side. With all of our fasteners tightened down, we can go ahead and torque the specifications as indicated in the instructions. The driver side complete, we can go ahead and repeat the same process in the passenger side. With my wiring re-secured, I can go ahead and reinstall the bumper cover. With our hitch and bumper reinstalled, we can go ahead and reinstall everything else now. Now with the car reassembled, that completes the install on our 2005 Mini Cooper part number C11126.

I just received the trailer hitch I ordered, on time, no problems. The two people I spoke to by phone, Amy and Rose, were fabulous on the phone. This was so smooth - way way better and less expensive than dealing with my local U-Haul. Can't address function of the hitch as yet, but I don't anticipate problems. The hitch arrived intact and unharmed, with parts as promised. Would definitely use ETrailer.com again! Kevin D, Norwood, MA 47929
After I placed my order with etrailer I read on line that the service was not very good. I was pleasantly surprised when the order was delivered rather quickly and with none of the problem I read about. Hopefully this will continue because i am looking for other purchases from etrailer. Good job guys Thanks 48319
Hitch well built. Fit first time on Mini Cooper. Use downloadable PDF file of instructions when you do the installation - the color and detail make it much better than a black and white photocopy version. 8866
