Firestone Ride-Rite Air Spring Basics

Firestone Ride-Rite springs are designed to increase safety and reduce the strain on your vehicle when you are hauling heavy loads or towing a heavy trailer. The springs partner with your existing rear suspension system to help keep your truck level, maintain even load distribution and increase stability. Hauling heavy loads or towing a heavy trailer can make the rear of your truck sag and the front end rise. This puts more strain on your rear axle and reduces contact between your front tires and the road, causing problems with braking, steering control and traction. By adding air springs to your rear suspension, you can help to level your truck and improve braking and handling. The air springs also help to level your headlight beams and reduce wear on your tires.

Adjustable Air Pressure

Firestone Ride-Rite air spring airline installation

The air pressure in your Ride-Rite springs can be adjusted manually, side to side, to compensate for off-center loads. A centered load improves the stability of your truck by reducing body roll. The air springs will also help to absorb road shock and to soften contact between your axle and frame. This prevents bottoming out, thus improving ride comfort. Route the air line tubing for the springs to your truck's bumper to provide easy access to the manual inflation valves.

Air Spring Construction

RED Label spring construction

Unlike standard Ride-Rite air springs, the RED Label air springs operate up to 150 psi to maximize its weight capacity. The springs have four layers of reinforced rubber to ensure durability and enhance load support. A braided wire girdle creates the double-convoluted shape of each air spring, increasing the burst pressure of the spring. The rubber springs are attached to corrosion-resistant metal end plates with a time-proven, rolled crimp seal that keeps the bags securely anchored.

Air Spring Installation

Each RED Label kit includes vehicle-specific brackets, fasteners, and hardware for fast, no-drill installation. The hardware installs directly on your axle and frame and the air springs install onto the mounting points provided by the brackets. Additional equipment like control panels, compressors, and air tanks are sold separately.

  • Comparing Air Springs And Jounce Springs For A 2022 Chevy Silverado DRW 4x4
Hi Duane, Air Springs are better for leveling loads and will typically give you a rougher unloaded ride quality so these might not be the best option for your setup depending on what your intended use is. Air springs are the best option when it comes to leveling the truck back out after placing it under a load so if you're planning on hauling a variety of items in the bed or towing multiple trailers they would have the most adjustability. If you're only towing occasionally and ride comfort...

  • Differences In Firestone Ride-Rite F2709 and Red Label F2613 For 2023 GMC Sierra 3500
The differences between the Firestone Ride Rite # F2613 and the Red Label # F2709 for your 2023 GMC Sierra 3500 Crew Cab Long Bed is the air pressure and max weight capacity. The Ride-Rite # F2613 are rated for 5,000lbs and 100 PSI, where the Red Label # F2709 are rated for 7,500lbs and 150 PSI. Since you have only 2280lbs of pin weight there is zero reason to go with the heavy duty bags, as you are well within the range of the # F2613 so that's what I recommend. I do also recommend...

  • Suspension Enhancement for 2020 GMC Sierra 2500
If you're towing most of the time then I would go with the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System # TGMRCK25D. These will provide the most support for your 2020 GMC Sierra 2500 while towing your 5th wheel. If you're more concerned about ride quality then the RoadActive Suspension # RAS3611-HD would be the better choice. The Timbren has a tendency to be a bit rough when you aren't towing or hauling. If you want the best option possible I would go with the Firestone Air Bags # F2709....

  • Comparing the Air Lift 7500 Airbags vs Firestone 7500 Airbags for a 2015 GMC Sierra 3500
For your 2015 GMC Sierra 3500 Denali DRW 4x4, I recommend using the Firestone Ride-Rite Red Label Extreme Duty Air Helper Springs part # F2709 over the Air Lift LoadLifter 7500 XL Air Helper Springs part # AL57538 for two reasons. The first reason is that the Air Lift kit requires drilling into the frame (minimal) whereas the Firestone kit is completely drill free. The second reason is in regards to the construction of the airbags. The Firestone airbags use a crimp rolled design which is...

  • Rear Suspension Helper Springs for a 2018 GMC Sierra 2500 Towing a 5th Wheel Trailer
Hello, I will be happy to help you select some helper springs to improve the ride and level out the truck when you are towing. Timbren springs are an easy install but they will make the ride stiffer when you are not towing. The similar SumoSprings Solo # SSR-207-47 will also level out the truck but will not be as stiff when not towing compared to the Timbren springs. Another option to consider is RoadActive Suspension # RAS3611-HD. Installation is easy with this kit as well. It will...

  • Air Bags for 2025 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 ZR2 With 7,500 lb Capacity and Wireless Air Compressor
Hi Mike; the best option for your 2025 Silverado 2500 ZR2 is definitely the Firestone Ride-Rite Red Label Extreme Duty Air Helper Springs # F2709 you looked at. These are going to be the most reliable and durable air bags out there. With a max psi of 150 lbs you will need a heavy duty air compressor like the Firestone Air Command # F99VV. This is controlled via the app with your phone and is a dual path system so you can adjust each air bag individually.

Hi James; what kind of 5th wheel do you have? You have the right idea looking at the Firestone Ride-Rite Red Label # F2709. Firestone has the best construction for the most reliable air bags. However, I don't see you needing the 7,500 lb capacity so you can save some money by using the regular Firestone Ride-Rite Air Helper Springs # F2613. These have a load-leveling capacity of 5,000 lbs (more than enough for most applications) and are compatible with your PullRite SuperGlide # PUL93RR...

  • Will The Firestone Air Bags F2709 Fit A 2024 GMC 2500 AT4X With Factory Suspension Lift?
Hey Tim, the Firestone Ride-Rite Red Label Extreme Duty Air Helper Springs # F2709 will indeed fit your 2024 GMC 2500 AT4X with a factory suspension lift. You will likely need to use a spacer kit to compensate for the lift, depending on the amount of lift. For example, the Lift Spacers # F2366 are for vehicles with a 2" lift and with 7.5" to 8.5" between upper and lower brackets. Based on what I could find online the AT4X has a 1.5" factory lift, meaning the # F2366 will be exactly what...

Hey Ryne, yes we sell the industry standard fifth wheel rail kits separate from our hitches but for some reason we make them harder to find than they should be. So for your 2024 Chevy Silverado 2500 you would want the part # C16429-204. Do you have a hitch already?

  • Will an Air Bag Kit Help with Squat When 5th Wheel Towing with a 2020 Chevy Silverado 3500?
Hey Javier, great questions! Air bags are the absolute best for 5th wheel towing because you can adjust them on an as-needed basis plus you can add an air compressor kit to the mix so you really can adjust them on the fly as well as have air on site for different things you might need while out on the road and at the campsite. For your application I recommend the Firestone Ride-Rite Red Label Extreme Duty Air Helper Springs # F2709 because they are the most rugged and offer the most support...

The clamps that attach the Air Lift Air Springs like item # AL88341 hang over your frame right where the brackets for the B&W Turnoverball Gooseneck Hitch item # BWGNRK1020 sit. You'll want to go with the Firestone Ride-Rite Red Label Extreme Duty Air Helper Springs item # F2709 for your 2021 GMC Sierra 2500. The Firestone Ride-Rite Red Label Extreme Duty Air Helper Springs - Rear Axle # F2709 are good for leveling a load up to 7,500 pounds, but most importantly are going to fit your 2021 GMC Sierra 3500 Dually. • Why Are 100psi Rated Compressors Being Recommended For Air Springs With 150psi Capacities
Hey Michael, If your air springs can go to 150psi then you really should go with a 150psi rated compressor so that you can fully utilize your springs. In those other answers there could've been some other factor that made that lower rated compressor the best option but that's very specific to the situation that neighbor is in. Firestone's compressor systems just weren't as good as the competitors in some of those situations or the neighbor just didn't want to have to drill an analog gauge...

Hey Kyle! The Air Lift # AL57538 you looked at will fit your 2013 GMC Sierra 2500. However, you will have to drill in the frame for installation since you have the 5th wheel rails installed. To avoid drilling I recommend the Firestone Ride-Rite # F2709 instead. Firestone also makes a more durable, higher quality air bag so you can count on them lasting. Not sure if you have a gooseneck hitch but there are compatibility issues with this kit and you may need to drill into your frame. Yours does not have an equivalent part. A spacer kit shouldn't be needed for your 2024 Silverado 2500 when using the Firestone item # F2709 because you only have 1" of lift.
