Offset Gooseneck Ball For 2024 GMC Sierra 3500 with OEM Prep Package

Updated 11/12/2024 | Published 11/09/2024

Question:

Hello I have a 2024 gmc 3500 SRW with the standard short bed. I tow a gooseneck trailer daily. Today I switched from my old truck 2009 ram 3500 SRW short bed to the gmc and was surprised how far behind the centerline of the axle the gmc oem puck gooseneck ball is. Is there a product that will offset the ball forward? Not happy with how the truck is squatting and it would give the truck and trailer a shorter footprint. Thanks for your help.

Hello Aaron.

I have the perfect solution for you, the Gen-Y Hitch Gooseneck Trailer Hitch for GM OEM Puck Systems - 5" Offset - 25,000 lbs # GY55XR. This will bring the ball forward by 5" and should line you up over the axle.

After you try out the offset gooseneck ball if you are still seeing some sagging you might want to consider getting some air bags. I am not sure how heavy of a load you are pulling, so I have 2 different options for you:

- For 7,500 lbs: Firestone Ride-Rite Red Label Extreme Duty Air Helper Springs - Rear Axle # F2709

- For 5,000 lbs: Firestone Ride-Rite Air Helper Springs - Double Convoluted - Rear Axle # F2613

Both of these options would pair nicely with the Air Lift WirelessAIR Compressor System for Air Helper Springs - Remote - Bluetooth - EZ Mount # AL74000EZ. This way you can monitor the air bags from the cab of your truck and fill or deflate as needed.

Hey Kate I took some measurements and the gm puck system is not symmetrical, the distance from the center puck to to the front pucks is greater than the distance to the rear pucks. The gen-y offset you recommended for short bed engages the center and front pucks and won’t fit spun around. . My understanding is that on long bed trucks gm spins the puck system 180 degrees. Since I have the short bed and want to move the gooseneck forward I would need the gen-y offset for the long bed which would engage the rear and center pucks and put the gooseneck ball forward. I found the dimensions on gen-y page and all of this seems to check out. Thanks, Aaron

@AaronS Hey Aaron, I have another option for you. You could install the Adapter Rails for Curt 5th Wheel Hitch - Ford and Chevy/GMC Towing Prep Package # C88KR directly in to your OEM Prep Package, and then use the Curt Above-Bed Gooseneck Trailer Hitch for Fifth Wheel Rails - 3" Offset - 25,000 lbs # 16055 and this would move the ball up 3". This should definitely get the job done.
