Replacing Factory Integrated Brake Controller in 2013 Chevy Silverado With Aftermarket Controller

Question:
I want to replace the factory controller with an after market one. I really want to be able to come up with a harness that I can use to unplug the factory one and plug right into the after market one so that I can always go back and hook up the factory one if I want to. It sounds like on the 2013 Silverado models they dont have a fuse box connection that I can unplug the old and plug in the new. It should be possible to come up with the appropriate mating plug for currently installed one so that I can hook it right to the plug that used to go into the factory unit though. can you help me? thanks

The factory-installed integrated brake controller in your 2013 Chevrolet Silverado uses an OEM connector that is not compatible with aftermarket brake controllers from Tekonsha and others. But since there is wiring in place under the dash to allow for aftermarket brake controller installation you can still install a versatile and easy-to-use proportional controller like the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 # 90885. This is among the most popular and reliable units offered and it is shown in the linked video.
The linked article specifically outlines the process for splicing such a brake controller into the existing wiring under your dash. The wires are located above your left shin as you are seated in the driver's seat.
The P2 comes with a pigtail wiring harness to allow you to splice into the under-dash vehicle wiring. You will also need enough 12-gauge blue wire, part # 10-1-1, to reach from the brake controller to your 7-way vehicle connector. In the engine compartment you will need to make two additional wiring connections to activate the wiring for the controller's 12V power and for the trailer's charging circuit. All of this is explained in the linked article.
