Recommended Bike Carrier For 2014 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited That Allows Full Access To Cargo
Updated 08/13/2014 | Published 08/11/2014 >
Question:
I am interested in a bike rack for my 14 Wrangler Unlimited. I want a tilt type like the thule but i want full access to the rear of the vehicle. Your video shows the rear access to be partial. Does the yakima fulltilt allow full access? I dont want a swing type carrier if possible do you have any other recommendations if the yakima doesnt?

The first thing you will want to consider is the clearance at the rear of your 2014 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. I have attached a helpful article that explains how you measure to make sure any accessory you install in your hitch clears the rear of your Jeep.
You will need a tape measure and a straight edge like a yardstick or a dowel. Hold the straight edge against the back of your bumper or if you have a rear-mounted spare tire, hold the straight edge against the back of that, making sure it extends below the hitch. Then measure from the center of the hitch pin hole to the straight edge. This is the clearance measurement you need to consider when choosing items to carry in the hitch. In the help article, there is a chart that lists the bike racks we offer and the clearance required.
With the door on your Wrangler opening to the side, to be able to access the rear cargo area, a swing-away carrier would be required.
The bike carrier I recommend is the Thule Swing 4 Bike Rack, part # TH9027XT. This carrier will hold 4 bikes at 37.5 lbs maximum each and has a swing-away feature that allows you to move the carrier to the side of your Wrangler, even when loaded to access the rear of your vehicle. The distance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the foot of the carrier is 7-1/2 inches and about 12 inches to the upright bar of the carrier.
I have attached a product review video for this carrier you can check out.
