Question:
This is a follow up to this question I asked yesterday, with some pictures and new information: After disassembling the hubs, I can confirm that all the bearing part numbers were correct. I was also able to read a part number on the National seal after all: #203034 x. Ill need at least two of the seals and the outer bearing, but the inner bearing and both races look okthough maybe I should replace the race on the damaged outer bearing anyway? What Im most interested in, however, is confirming whether these are oil bath hubs and finding any additional information on service and repair. I do a lot of work on my own cars, but Im not that familiar with trailersI suppose I need to clean the hubs with solvent I packed bearings with grease and fill with oil? Which oil? It seems to me that the threaded dust caps would need an additional seal of some sort to keep the oil in tooany insight on that? The hubs have the letter KH and K 92 cast into them if that helps. Ive attached a pictures to help you identify, and would upload more but your website is not working properly to do sothese seem to be particularly unusual parts to find on a homebuilt trailer.

That certainly does appear to be an oil bath hub. The seal number is associated with 1956 to 1959 Studebakers as far as I could find. It looks like the dimensions of the seal are 1.875 inches inner diameter and 3 inches outer diameter. We have one seal that has the dimensions, # 29031, but it is a grease seal, not an oil seal.
The bearing # 1779 is associated with race # 1729. They fit hub 22834 which from what I could find is not an oil bath hub. The inner bearing that is associated with the hub and the outer bearing is # 2788 with race # 2729.
We don't have replacement hubs for this and you will need to check the dimensions on each part and compare them to your bearings, races, and seals to determine fit.
On an oil bath hub it is the oil that lubricates the bearings so you wouldn't grease them. But if the above parts all fit then you could pack the bearings with grease instead of using oil and it would work fine.
