B&W Gooseneck Pin Box Conversion For 2027 Ram 3500 With Factory Prep

Published 10/28/2026

Question:

I just bought a 2027 Ram 3500 with the 8-foot bed and factory fifth wheel/gooseneck prep package. Our fifth wheel has a Lippert Rhino pin box, and I'd like to switch to a gooseneck connection instead of installing a traditional fifth wheel hitch. The trailer has about 3,600 lbs of loaded pin weight. What would I need to make this work?

Hey Ryan, congratulations on the new truck! I recommend the B&W Gooseneck Pin Box # BW55RV to replace your Lippert Rhino. It has a 25,000 lb towing capacity and a 4,500 lb pin weight rating, so it will handle your 3,600 lbs of loaded pin weight.

For your 2027 Ram 3500 with the factory prep, you'll also need the B&W Ball and Safety Chain Kit # BWGNXA2062. This installs directly into your factory gooseneck mounting points, so you won't need an additional underbed hitch.

You can get both parts together with the B&W Fifth Wheel Setup # BW52RV. This includes the Rhino-compatible gooseneck pin box and Ram ball kit, giving you everything you need for the conversion in one package.

What kind of fifth wheel are you towing, and where are you headed next with the new Ram?

One other question, does the cushioning in the B&W pin box need to be adjusted based on the trailer's weight, or is it ready to use once installed?

@Ryan the B&W Gooseneck Pin Box # BW55RV uses built-in SumoSprings to absorb road shock and reduce chucking. There's no adjustment or break-in period required, so it's ready to go once installed. The cushioning is also maintenance-free, which is a nice benefit compared to systems that require regular adjustments.
