25K Fifth Wheel Hitch for a 2027 Ford F-450 With Factory Prep

Updated 10/28/2026 | Published 10/27/2026

Question:

I just bought a 2027 Ford F-450 with the 8-foot bed and factory fifth wheel prep package. Our fifth wheel weighs around 22,000 lbs loaded, so I need something rated higher than the usual 20K hitches. Will the B&W 25K Companion fit directly into the factory pucks, or do I need an adapter?

Hey Nathan, congratulations on the new truck! The B&W Companion # BWRVK3305 will fit directly into the factory pucks on your 2027 Ford F-450. No additional adapter is required. Your 22,000 lb fifth wheel is within the hitch's capacity, but you'll still want to stay within your F-450's towing and payload ratings.

The Companion also has a 6,250 lb vertical load rating, fully articulating head, and cam-action handle that makes hookup and release easier when you're parked on uneven ground. You can adjust the hitch height from 16-3/4" to 18-3/4" to help get your fifth wheel level, and the head can be removed separately from the base when you need to clear out your truck bed.

What kind of fifth wheel are you towing and where are you headed next?

Thanks Robin! We're also looking for a retractable tonneau cover so we can keep the Companion covered when we're not towing. Is there one you'd recommend for the 8-foot bed?

@Nathan I recommend the RetraxPRO MX # RT80384 for your F-450's 8' bed. It's a retractable hard cover, so you can open it up when towing and close it over the Companion when you're not using it. If you think you might add a ladder rack or crossbars later, I'd go with the RetraxPRO XR # RTT-80384 instead. It has built-in T-slot rails for mounting a compatible rack while keeping the retractable cover.
