B&W Companion Slider Fifth Wheel Hitch for a 2027 Ram 3500 Short Bed

Question:

I just bought a 2027 Ram 3500 with the 6-1/2 foot bed and factory fifth wheel prep package. Our fifth wheel has a regular pin box, and I'm concerned about clearance between the trailer and cab when backing into campsites. Is there a B&W Companion slider that fits the factory pucks, or will I need an adapter?

Hey Derek, congratulations on the new truck! You can use the B&W Companion Slider Fifth Wheel Hitch # BWRVK3670 in your 2027 Ram 3500 with the 6-1/2' bed and prep package. This installs directly into your factory puck system, so you won't need any additional rails or adapters.

The Companion has a 20,000 lb towing capacity and provides 12" of front-to-back travel to give you extra cab clearance when making tight turns or backing into campsites. Thanks Robin! I'd also like to add a retractable tonneau cover so I can keep the Companion covered when we're not towing. Is there one you'd recommend for my short bed?

@Derek I recommend the RetraxPRO MX # RT80232 for your Ram's 6-1/2' bed. It's a retractable hard cover, so you can open it up when towing and close it over the Companion when you're not using it. If you think you might want to add a ladder rack or crossbars later, I'd go with the RetraxPRO XR # RTT-80232 instead. It has built-in T-slot rails for mounting a compatible rack while keeping the retractable cover.
