Ladder Rack for Hauling Long Ladders on a 2027 Ford F-150 Short Bed

Updated 10/27/2026 | Published 10/24/2026

Question:

I recently picked up a 2027 F-150 with the 5-1/2 foot bed for my contracting business. I'm having trouble hauling my 20-foot extension ladder since the bed is so short. I want something that extends over the cab for extra support, preferably black to match the truck. I also use it as my personal vehicle, so I'd rather not have a big rack sticking up all the time. What would you recommend?

Hi Scott, congratulations on the new truck! I recommend the Thule TracRac SR Sliding Ladder Rack with Cantilever # TH34FR32DX for your 2027 Ford F-150. This is a complete black setup that fits your 5-1/2' bed and includes the over-the-cab extension you're looking for.

The cantilever provides additional support for your 20' ladder, and the uprights slide along the base rails so you can adjust them for different loads. You can also remove the uprights when you're using the truck for personal trips, leaving just the low-profile base rails installed. The rack has a 1,250 lb capacity so it can handle just about anything you might need to haul for your business.

What kind of contracting work do you do?

Mostly residential electrical work. I carry extension ladders pretty regularly, but I will also use the truck for camping trips with the family. Being able to take the rack off when we're not working is a big plus.

@Scott that should work out nicely for you. You can leave the base rails installed and remove the uprights when you're heading out camping, then put everything back on when you need the rack for work. Hope it serves you well!
