Can BTBRV InstaLatch Be Used With a 2-1/2 Inch Receiver and Reducer

Published 10/16/2026

Question:

My truck has a 2-1/2-inch receiver, and I already have a sleeve for using 2-inch ball mounts. Can I use that with the 4-inch drop InstaLatch? I need the 2-5/16-inch ball.

Hey Paul! No, the BTBRV InstaLatch Ball Mount # BTBRV010 cannot be used with a reducer in your 2-1/2" receiver. Its built-in hitch pins are designed for a standard 2" receiver, and the manufacturer specifically excludes using these with larger receivers and reducer sleeves.

For your truck, I'd recommend the etrailer Ball Mount # e58TV instead. It fits directly into your 2-1/2" receiver and has the 4" drop and 2-5/16" ball you need. It is rated for 20,000 lbs of trailer weight and 2,000 lbs of tongue weight.

What kind of truck are you towing with?

It's a Chevy 2500. Would the e58TV still work if I wanted to use an anti-rattle device with it?

@Paul yes, you can use an anti-rattle device with the # e58TV. For the 2-1/2" receiver on your Silverado, I'd recommend the etrailer Anti-Rattle Hitch Collar # e55YV. It will help eliminate movement between the ball mount and receiver while towing and works with trailers up to 10,000 lbs.
