What Drop Hitch Do I Need for a 2027 Chevy Tahoe

Updated 10/16/2026 | Published 10/14/2026

Question:

We’re getting our boat trailer set up behind a 2027 Tahoe. I measured the receiver opening and it is 2 inches. The top inside edge is 22 inches from the ground, and the bottom of the trailer coupler is 18 inches with the trailer level. It takes a 2-inch ball. Which ball mount would you recommend?

Hello Mel! Based on those measurements, you need a 4" drop, so I’d recommend the BTBRV InstaLatch Ball Mount # BTBRV007. It comes with the 2" ball already installed and torqued, and the quick-release design makes it easy to remove when you aren’t towing.

We have the following available with a 2" ball:

-BTBRV InstaLatch - 2" Drop # BTBRV006

-BTBRV InstaLatch - 4" Drop # BTBRV007

-BTBRV InstaLatch - 6" Drop # BTBRV008

The drop should be chosen from your actual measurements rather than the vehicle model alone, so the # BTBRV007 is the one for the setup you described. I also recommend adding an anti-rattle # e38FV to help cut down on movement while towing your boat. If you plan on leaving it in the hitch, the # e39PR will keep it secure.

Any big trips coming up with your boat before winter hits?

We're planning to take the boat to the lake a few more times. Would I need to measure again if I loaded the Tahoe with passengers and luggage?

@Mel yes, I'd check how the trailer sits once the Tahoe is loaded for your trip. Additional weight can lower the rear suspension and change how level the trailer sits. Your measurements point to the 4" drop # BTBRV007, but checking it loaded will help confirm that's the best fit.
