B&W Continuum and TorkLift SuperTruss Compatibility for Boat Towing

Updated 10/19/2026 | Published 10/16/2026

Question:

When using a TorkLift SuperTruss Hitch Extension for SuperHitch Trailer Hitch Receivers - 48inch Long Part Number: TLE1548 Is a good weight distribution hitch to use a BandW Continuum Weight Distribution System w/ Sway Control for 2inch Hitch - 16K GTW, 1.6K TW Part Number: BW78FR My truck is an F350 dually with a Northern Lite 10.2 camper and I am towing a boat. The weight distribution hitches with the traditional bars would be a pain to take on and off all the time when launching the boat.

Hey Jeff.

The SuperTruss # TLE1548 is designed to work with weight distribution, and the B&W Continuum # BW78FR will work with it. However, we have to make sure the boat trailers tongue is an open A-frame without the center frame rail as this is where the hydraulic cylinder installs. Also, the hardware that comes with this WDH fits 5" and 6" tall frame rails (there are alternate hardware kits for different sizes) I would like to stress that everything matters here, whether or not you're using the SuperHitch Original/Magnum or the Hero model, this will all effect how much weight you can safely pull and load on the tongue. This WDH does remove the hassle of using bars and allows you to safely back up without removal however, B&W cautions about clearance at steep angles like a boat ramp, with the lowest point being at roughly 9" below the trailer frame. Also, once you disconnect/unload the WDH we cannot rely on the higher weight rating of the SuperTruss with the WDH installed.

I've attached a photo below of the weight ratings of the different hitches with and without a WDH installed. This setup will work with the proper trailer tongue and trailer weights, I just recommend using caution when backing the trailer down a ramp and disconnecting your WDH. Also, not a bad idea to know exactly what your loaded/ready to tow tongue weight is for the boat trailer.

Have you used a setup like this before?

Thanks Trent. My boat trailer does have a center frame rail so the Continuum will not work. Looks like a better option will be something in the Blue Ox series like Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution w/ Sway Control for 2" Hitch - 10,000 lbs GTW, 1,000 lbs TW Part Number: BXW1000. I am not sure this will fit my boat trailer as the frame is aluminum and is 4 inches wide. Would this be a good option? The best place to start might be to even the trailer load is the Air Lift shocks on the truck. For some reason these are set up to max out at 35 PSI. On my previous truck I had the full range of PSI in the Air Lift shocks and typically towed with air shocks set at 60 - 80 pounds. Is there a reason my Air LIft shocks would max out at 35? Is there a way to recalibrate this maximum with Air Lift shocks?

@JeffP Well shoot, sucks we can't use the Continuum to be less the bars. But the # BXW1000 does look to be a good alternative. This hitch is compatible with frames up to 6" tall and 2-1/2" wide. We gotta make sure that your frame has room to accommodate the brackets roughly 29" back from the center of the ball coupler. The weight limits are still well within your range as well. Now, when it comes to your aluminum frame you just have to check with the manufacturer of the frame/trailer to ensure they approve use of a WDH. For your Air Lift shocks, there's a couple things that could be the case. Do you mind telling me what model Air Lift shocks you have? Along with what year your truck is?
