Updated 10/05/2026 | Published 10/01/2026

Question:

What is the max tongue weight of the clamp on Bucket hitch? I have a 40hp Kubota and the Bucket will lift 1200 lbs and a 3500 lb dump Trailer when empty. I’ll only use it when empty

Thanks for letting us help Ken. The etrailer 2" Clamp-On Bucket Hitch Receiver # e75ZV does not have an official gross trailer weight or tongue weight rating because it is designed strictly for off-road use and is not intended for towing on public roads. That said, it will plenty sturdy for moving your dump trailer around your property. We've received reviews from customers who have successfully used it to maneuver considerably heavier trailers.

For this type of application, one capacity you'll definitely want to stay within is the rating of the ball mount and hitch ball you're using. For example, the etrailer Adjustable 2-Ball Mount - 2" Hitch # e66PR has the following capacities:

With the 2" ball: 7,500 lbs gross trailer weight and 750 lbs tongue weight
With the 2-5/16" ball: 10,000 lbs gross trailer weight and 1,000 lbs tongue weight

You'll also want to remain within the operating and lifting capacities of the equipment you're attaching the # e75ZV to.

Would you only be using the clamp-on receiver to move this dump trailer, or do you have other trailers around the property you'd like to move as well?

@KenH I use the adaptor to move around and park 2 trailers one a tandem and it makes it so much easier to precisely park in tight places and to quickly move around

@Dave Thanks for the feedback! What type of tractor are you using?

The hitch adapter is stout and heavy. It did not slide up tight to the bucket of my tractor due to the thickness of the cutting edge. I use it mainly to recover18-20’ boats, runabouts from an inland lake. It does the job handily, much easier than backing up a trailer. The hitch will slip left or right due to not being up tight. It does not come off and does the job. Glad I have it!
