How To Use Tractor Or Skid Steer To Maneuver Trailers In Gravel Lot

Updated 02/05/2026 | Published 02/03/2026

Question:

I’ve got a couple trailers parked on uneven gravel. Does using a bucket-mounted hitch make it easier to line things up?

Hey Aaron, that’s actually one of the big benefits of the etrailer clamp-on bucket hitch receiver # e75ZV. Since you’re sitting higher and closer with a clear view of the coupler and trailer tongue, it’s much easier to make small adjustments compared to backing a truck up on uneven ground. You can creep forward, lift slightly, and reposition without hopping in and out of the cab.

Just keep in mind the bucket edge still needs to be 1-1/2 inch thick or less, and this is meant for controlled positioning around your property, not towing at speed. What kind of trailers are you lining up on the gravel?

Makes sense. I’m usually doing this by myself, so not having to jump in and out helps a lot. thanks andrew
