Roadmaster RM-2470-50 vs RM-2470 for Tandem 8K Axles

Published 09/15/2026

Question:

RM-2470-50 vs RM-2470 for Tandem 8K Axle Trailer Hi, I have a 2022 Grand Design Momentum 320G with tandem 8,000-lb axles and I’m looking to add the Roadmaster Comfort Ride shock system while retaining my existing conventional double-eye leaf-spring suspension. I’m comparing the following: * RM-2470 — complete tandem-axle shock kit * RM-2470-50 — add-on shock kit for one additional axle Since the RM-2470-50 appears to include two shocks and the mounting hardware for one 3-1/2” axle, I’m wondering whether I can purchase two RM-2470-50 kits and use one on each axle of my tandem-axle trailer instead of purchasing one RM-2470 kit. Two RM-2470-50 kits are currently less expensive than one RM-2470, so I’d like to confirm whether there is any functional or hardware difference that would prevent this. Specifically, could you please confirm: 1. Would two RM-2470-50 kits provide all of the components necessary to install shocks on both axles of my tandem 8K trailer? 2. Is there any bracket, tie plate, spacer, fastener, or other component included in the RM-2470 that is not included when purchasing two RM-2470-50 kits? 3. Are the shocks themselves the same between the RM-2470 and RM-2470-50? 4. Is there any installation, fitment, or warranty reason you would recommend against using two RM-2470-50 kits in this application? The trailer is a 2022 Grand Design Momentum 320G with tandem 8,000-lb axles. I can provide axle measurements or photos if needed. Thank you for your help, Blake Visin

Hi Blake! Yes, you can use two of the Roadmaster Comfort Ride Add On Shock Kits, part # RM-2470-50, on your 2022 Grand Design Momentum 320G. Each RM-2470-50 kit includes the components needed to add shocks to one axle, so purchasing two kits will give you what you need for both axles. There is no functional reason you cannot use two of these kits instead of the complete part # RM-2470 kit. The RM-2470-50 is simply offered as an add on kit for customers who have a triple axle trailer and want to add another axle to their setup. It will not change the warranty either.

The important thing is that your trailer meets the fit requirements for the kit. It is designed for tandem axle trailers with leaf spring suspension and 3-1/2 inch diameter axle tubes, which is typical for 8,000 lb axles. Based on the 8,000 lb axles you described, you should be good to go as long as your axle tubes measure 3-1/2 inches in diameter. This is a great way to make sure you have the correct components for both axles without buying more than you need.

What toys or gear do you usually haul in the 320G’s garage?
