Should The Stealth Hitch Latching Block Be Left Unlocked When The Receiver Is Removed?
Updated 09/16/2026 | Published 09/11/2026 >
Question:
I ordered the Stealth Hitches Hidden Rack Receiver - Custom Fit - 2 for my Ioniq 6 and installed well. But, I have one question on using it. Do I have to leave the stainless steel block as unlocked status after removing the ion pin? Because, I am just worrying about the spring in the stainless steel block that it could be loose tension if I keep it as spring-loaded status for a long time until I plugin the ion pin.

Hello Byungkwon,
Thanks for writing in, and that is a great question!
Yes, when you remove the detachable 2" receiver from your Stealth Hitches # SH73SR, it is fine for the stainless steel latching mechanism to remain in its normal unloaded position. You do not need to keep the mechanism spring-loaded while the receiver is removed.
When you are ready to use the receiver again, unlock the mechanism with the key, turn the release handle to prepare the latch, and then insert the receiver. Once the receiver is fully seated, the mechanism will engage and you can lock it back into place.
So you do not need to worry about keeping tension on that spring while the receiver is stored. The system is designed for the receiver to be removed when you are not using it, which is really the whole beauty of the Stealth Hitch setup.
What are you carrying on the back of your Ioniq 6, bikes or a cargo carrier?
