Do I Need a DC-to-DC Charger After Switching My RV to Lithium?

Updated 09/03/2026 | Published 08/31/2026

Question:

I have a 2021 Coachman Mirada RV and recently swapped to lithium batteries. I read that you should install a DC to DC charger. What do you recommend? Additional, where would it be connected, the only solenoid I am aware of is under the steps has a part number of 120-105851-6 coil 12V DC cont.

Hey Andrew, thanks for reaching out. Yes, adding a DC-to-DC charger is a good upgrade after switching your 2021 Coachmen Mirada to lithium. I recommend the Victron Orion XS 12/12-50A # VN93VR. It limits the current the lithium bank pulls from the alternator and gives the batteries the proper lithium charging profile while driving.

That 120-105851-6 continuous-duty solenoid under the steps is where I recommend starting your search for the existing chassis-to-house charging circuit. The Orion installs in that charging path between the chassis charging source and the lithium house bank. Leave the solenoid in place until you verify how Coachmen wired the battery boost function, since that same solenoid may also handle emergency starting.

How many lithium batteries did you install, and what is the total amp-hour capacity?
