Looking for Replacement RV AC Unit for 2016 Heartland Bighorn

Updated 08/25/2026 | Published 08/24/2026

Question:

I have a 2016 Heartland Bighorn and I would like to change out my main AC with a Furrion Chill Cube. The Bighorn does not have ceiling air distribution unit in the RV. I am assuming that I will have to cut a hole in the ceiling for installation? Please let me know what exactly I will need for this project. Thanks

Hey Tim, since you do not have a ceiling vent that means your setup is what is known as a "top down" unit. We don't have a way to install a Furrion Chill Cube in this orientation but GE has told us their low profile units like the part # GE76RR can be installed like this. This would be our best recommendation for your 2016 Heartland Bighorn. What unit do you have currently?

@TimL Gotcha, yeah I tried looking online again to see if someone was able to install a Chill Cube in a top down setup like what you have and best I could find was someone who was able to convert a top down setup to using the traditional air box.

2015 Bighorn without a distribution box inside either. I installed the cube and cude not be happier. I went with the ducted unit. Not a super easy install but it was worth it. Once I removed the old dometic unit I had to use an oscillating tool to cut the opening in the ceiling. It was both wood and a thin layer of sheet metal. That was not expected. After that the ducts had to be altered for use only as supply. That was a little more cutting, Styrofoam and aluminum tape. It was time consuming. This was my bedroom unit. I am planning on purchasing the same cube for my main unit. Saving about 25 dollars a month in Arizona desert!
