Replacement SpeedKnob and Lock for a Yakima RidgeBack Bike Rack

I have a Yakima hitch rack either a Ridgeback or Ridgeback Four - the key broke off in the lock I assume it would be easiest to fully replace the red-knob assembly with key vs. trying to swap out the lock cylinder. I can send photos.

Hi Chris, It sounds like you've found yourself in a bit of a pickle but you're on the right track. If the key broke off in the lock, the easiest solution is to replace the entire Replacement SpeedKnob and Wedge Assembly, Part # 8880508. That gives you a fresh knob and tightening mechanism without having to fight with the old lock.
You'll also want the Yakima Same Key System Lock Cores, Part # Y07202. It includes a new lock core along with the Yakima control key that's used to install and remove the lock cylinder. If you're able to get the broken key out of the old lock, you could simply swap in the new lock core. If not, I'd still recommend replacing the whole SpeedKnob assembly since it's a much simpler repair and gives you a fresh tightening mechanism at the same time.
If you do want to try removing the broken key first, sometimes you can catch it with a small pick, a straightened safety pin, or a dedicated broken key extractor if a small portion of the key is still inside the lock. If it won't budge, I wouldn't spend too much time fighting it since replacing the SpeedKnob is the quicker and less frustrating fix.
