Video Transcript for Yakima Bike Racks Replacement SpeedKnob Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at the replacement speed knob and wedge assembly for the Yakima bike racks, part number 8880508. The Yakima replacement speed knob is to be used with the Full Swing, Swing Daddy, Ridgeback and Full Tilt bike racks when their speed knobs are either damaged or the threads at the end are stripped out. It comes with the black knockout here which you're going to remove that and it has the control key to remove the lock core from your previous speed knob to replace it into this one. To get started we'll first remove our wedge piece here by unscrewing it and set it aside now we'll grab our damaged speed knob and start replacing it as well. Now we'll move on to our bike rack and have our Yakima Ridgeback here on our table and the issue with is the thread is stripped out in our wedge. We'll push that off to the side, remove our speed knob as well, now we'll get our new one and start installing it. First since this is a Ridgeback, we'll have to remove this top piece from the wedge. Take our allen tool, unscrew those two allen screws, move onto the one on the inside.

Now we can grab our new wedge and install this piece on top of it. What this piece actually does is it takes up the additional space on our Ridgeback so it'll fit properly in a two inch hitch. If you we're to convert this into an inch and a quarter you would remove this piece again. Finally, our second screw, one last turn to make sure it's nice and tight. Next we'll move onto our lock core switch out here. To remove this plastic cap, we'll take a small flat bladed screwdriver and just pop that out, very easy, and then we'll take our master key here put it into the core and it pulls out like so. Again, very easy.

To place it into our new lock, we'll push it in holding onto the end of the core and pull it out. Now we're ready to install this. We'll take our lock washer and install it on our replacement speed knob here and we'll install it at the end of the shank like so. Then we'll take our wedge and we'll just start to screw it in on the inside. You see the cutout here, you want to make sure that the wedge fits along that area. Here's the end of our speed knob so we'll just match them up, just start threading it in so it catches.

Now we can place it into our vehicle, slide it into our trailer hitch and go by the normal installation procedures for this bike rack. Now we'll go into the end here and tighten down our new knob. As we tighten it down, you'll notice that the shake and play has gone away which means it's working properly. All right, it looks like we're ready to go, we'll lock it into place so it's secure in the vehicle and now we can load up some bikes. There you have it for the replacement speed knob and wedge assembly part number 8880508.

I really enjoy the customer service at etrailer.
There was a slight mixup on my order but etrailer sent the part out right away, no questions ask.

Tony - 06/27/2022

etrailer was super accommodating when it came to getting my part. It was on back order from the manufacturer and George sent me periodic updates on the status of my order. Great company to work with.

I've had my SwingDaddy bike rack for many years and use it almost everyday. Once in a while I get too close to things and scrap the knob pretty hard. I got this as a backup, in case I need to replace it. I love the rack and don't want to be without it for even a day!

i lost a tiny part of this part which is essential for my bike rack. i couldnt find it in seattle. etrailer supplied. and:i camped with my bike last weekend. fabulous trip. thank you etrailer.

I bought a used Full Swing Rack that was missing a few parts. The Yakima Website was out of them all (and according to other reviews on their site, had been so for several months), and Yakima didn't have a date on when they expected to get them in. etrailer had the parts available (with one exception).

I thought this was going to be a knockoff SpeedKnob, but it is a genuine Yakima product. As such, it fits perfectly. It it super easy to add a lock tumbler and install on the hitch rack.

This is the third time that I have had occasion to use etrailer since I purchased a bike rack for my car a number of years ago. Each time the service is great--the website is easy to use, the goods are reasonably priced and they get to me in just a few days. In this case, I needed a new Speedknob and wedge assembly used to tighten my Yakima Ridgeback bike rack into my hitch (the old one stripped out). I got it quickly and once again, I'm ready for another spring of bike riding.

Great—I just put the bike rack on the car getting ready for the spring and all is fine.

Easy to install, OEM product made our tailgate rack good-as-new!

I couldn't find the replacement anywhere else including the original dealer that sold me my rack, this part is the right part number and solved my issue effectively.

I've purchased more solutions from and every time is always a nice experience. I'm giving 5 stars, for some reason I can't rate with the stars on this comment box.

Pura Vida guys of e-trailer, this Yakima rack right now is in Costa Rica, thanks for all your support, fast shipping, great price and reliable seller.

I backed up into a very high curb and broke the knob on my bike rack. All that I needed was a new lockable knob for a Yakima HighLite, 2-bike rack. The only one available for that particular rack comes as part of a Replacement Mast with Anti-Rattle Knob and Adapter Sleeve, I thought that instead I would try the Replacement SpeedKnob and Wedge Assembly and see if it would work. I am pleased to say that it does! I was able to take both apart, the interior knob parts are the same, so I was able to just use the new knob on the old rack and save

Great products and service from etrailer!

Exactly like the photo and works. It be nice if Yakima sold just the Wedge that threads into the end of the rod, as that was all I needed (as the wedge can fall out I'm sure that most people need to replace just the wedge, not the whole assembly). But this is not eTtrailer's issue as Yakima does not sell just the wedge (I called them). I'd also recommend that eTrailer predominately recommend as an add on buying a Yakima Same Key System (SKS) Lock Core as I'd have probably bought one (IF they sold just single lock core at around the same price as Yakima vs. a two pack). The eTrailer description does note that the SKS lock core (sold separately), I just didn't follow or understand what that meant until I got it and then understand I needed to take my old lock core out of my old SpeedKnob, and put the lock core in the replacement SpeedKnob. As I had my old SpeedKob with the lock core, it wasn't an issue, otherwise, I'd be placing another order for a lock core.

Its a knob for a hitch mounted bike rack. it arrived well packaged and in good condition. SKS key lock core is sold seperately. The key pictured is for installing the core upon purchase.

This is really more about the service from etrailer which was excellent, particularly with letting me know the original item I ordered was backordered and keeping me posted as it continued to be backordered for longer than anticipated. I was able to find some other products that allowed my bike rack (bought used from elsewhere) to be functional. Thanks etrailer!

Great communication with customer. My replacement SpeedKnob was delayed (not etrailers fault) due to the part coming from overseas. etrailer sent me an email to let me know, give me a direct contact person for questions and an updated delivery date. After receiving the package etrailer sent me a follow up email, which included a video on how to replace the part.

Yakima replacement part that worked perfectly with my FullSwing hitch rack. Be aware that the SKS lock is not included so you will need that separately. Really fast processing and arrived considerably sooner than expected. Completely satisfied with part and service. Would definitely buy from etrailer again if needed.

This Replacement SpeedKnob and Wedge Assembly for Yakima Bike Racks works as expected. Nothing unusual or extraordinary about it.

Worked just like the original. Easy to use.

I was so impressed by myself and this replacement piece. Diagnosing the issue and identifying the part was the hard part. came to rescue not only by supplying the necessary part. But, by supplementing with the video instructions. Although, the instructions supplied were sufficient. Watching the instructional video was a beneficial go-by. Thank you for being there. God bless you and all who make up this asset.

I ordered a replacement part for my Yakima Bike Rack and received it within a few days. My experience with E-Trailer after several orders has always been prompt and responsive. Great company to work with.

I bent the SpeedKnob descending a slope and didn't account for the extra length of the bike carrier. Etrailer was the best price and easiest to find this part. It arrived quickly and the installation was very simple.

When I recieved this replacement part I was surprised because it was different than the original component. It did not have the expansion wing nut at the base. However I soon discovered that this piece was better than the original. I am able to attach and remove the rack without fear of stripping the part. Plus it arrived quickly in time for our trip to the beach.

Item works as described. The five stars go to the customer service people. Noah was great as was a female who assisted me the day before. I could not find the part name and Noah patiently walked me through the bike rack parts until the right part was found. AWESOME CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!!

Slow delivery due to covid delays, but good communications from company. Thanks again.

This is the exact item that I needed. I LOVE that etrailer ships from the USA. Note that I originally placed an order through a company through another online retailer, and they cancelled the order on the day we were expecting delivery. I found the same part with etrailer and called to confirm they were US based prior to placing my order. The order process was simple, the shipping cost was reasonable, and the delivery was reliable. I will order from them again.

It works. Hard to justify price when all I needed was the missing screw.

Both of the frame cradle part numbers you mentioned are correct for the Yakima Ridge back bike racks. The one has a anti-sway cradle that grabs the frame tube to stabilize it and the other does not. So you'd to order one of each of these for each bike that would get loaded on your rack.
