Should I Get A Manual Or Electric Retracting Tonneau Cover For My 2026 Ford F-450?

I just bought a 2026 F-450 with an 8-foot bed, and I need advice on which tonneau cover to get. I’m looking at the Real Truck Retrax Pro EZ-OFF FRC-4000 Full Bed Access Manual Retractable Tonneau Cover with T-Slot Rails. Which would be better of the two: manual or electric? What would you recommend, and why? Or would you recommend a different cover altogether?

If this were my truck and I was installing a retractable cover on it (which I actually did with my Silverado), I would go with the manual RetraxPRO XR Hard Tonneau Cover - Retractable - Aluminum - Matte Black - Accessory T-Slots # RTT-80384 over the electric one.
I installed a Pace Edwards retractable because I got a really good deal on it at the time, but I was debating between it and the RetraxPRO. Both manual. The electric options were also available, but they were quite a bit more expensive and I am a bit of a caveman and prefer mechanical things over electric things. There is just less that can go wrong with mechanical stuff like this. Plus it's easier and less expensive to fix if/when it does go wrong. With that being said, this is just my opinion and the electric option is very popular. I just prefer to follow the KISS Principal. And speaking from experience with the manual Pace Edwards cover, I actually broke it by pushing a bookcase into it when it wasn't opened all the way (don't do that), but I can still get it to open and close perfectly fine. I'm not sure how an electrical system would be able to handle something like that.
Also, if the deal I got would have been better on the Retrax, it definitely would have been the one I would have gotten. Don't get me wrong, my Pace Edwards has held up really well (I installed it in 2018 and it's still going strong), but the RetraxPRO is the nicer cover. It retracts easier, can lock open/closed anywhere along the way, and the mechanism that allows you to open and close it is a lot easier to use. If I were to do it over again, it's the one I would go with.
If you still wanted to go with an electric/powered option though, you will want the Pace Edwards UltraGroove Retractable Hard Tonneau Cover - Electric - Aluminum - Matte Black # PE87QJ. I checked with Retrax to get the part number for their electric one, but it doesn't look like they have an option for that quite yet. Like the RetraxPRO XR, this also have slots in the rails so a ladder rack can be installed on it.
What are you going to be keeping in your bed? I have some survival gear and a few other things that are always in there, just in case.

I say go with the manual. If its installed properly its one hand operation. I have the retrax pro on my 2025 F350 8ft bed and im very happy. The only improvement I think they could make is to make partially open lock down better. Mine uses friction but it would be way more effective with a series of holes in the rail for the locking pins insert into. But all and all the best I've had. Chuck T. P.S Etrailer is the best!
