Question:

I have a 15k lb camper duel axel with the 12x2 drum brakes. I am looking at converting to disc. Can you give me suggestions for your conversion kits? I have a picture of the axel tag that I can email also

Hello James,

Thank you for sending over the picture of your axle tag!

Based on the information on your axle tag, your trailer has tandem 7,000 lb Lippert axles with an 8 on 6-1/2 bolt pattern. Since you're looking to switch to hydraulic disc brakes, I recommend going with one of the Hydrastar Disc Brake Kits with Actuator. They come with the hub and rotor assemblies, calipers, actuator, brake lines, bearings, races, seals, and the installation hardware, so you'll have everything you need for the installation.

The correct kit depends on the size of your wheel studs. If your trailer has 1/2" wheel studs, you'll want # HSE7K-T1. If it has 9/16" wheel studs, then you'll need # HYD87VR.

Hydraulic disc brakes are a great upgrade for a heavier camper like yours. They provide stronger, more consistent braking than electric drum brakes, and you'll especially notice the difference when coming down long grades or towing in hilly areas.

What brake controller are you using? Since you're switching from electric drum brakes to an electric-over-hydraulic system, I want to make sure your brake controller has an electric-over-hydraulic setting so it will work with the Hydrastar actuator.

Getting things geared up for the next great adventure, where are you headed to next?
