Air Bags and Compressor for 2004 F-250 V10 Towing a 28' Travel Tailer?

Question:

I have a 2004 F250 extended cab long bed V10 engine. I will be towing a 28 ft travel trailer that weighs around 6800 empty. I am looking for air bags / shocks for the rear of the truck to level everything up in a straight line and avoid the v going down the road, I am looking for the most economical way to accomplish this goal. Please advise. Thank you.

For your 2004 Ford F-250 Extended Cab Long Bed with the V10, the Firestone Ride-Rite Air Helper Springs - Double Convoluted - Rear Axle # F2071 that you were looking at will work great. The # F2071 is designed for vehicles with a GVWR greater than 8,500 lbs, and the GVWR of your F-250 is typically 8,800 lbs. I attached an image so you can see exactly where they will install.

Since your 28-foot travel trailer weighs around 6,800 lbs empty, you're likely seeing some rear-end squat from the trailer's tongue weight. The Firestone air bags are a great way to level the truck back out and provide additional support to the rear suspension when towing. They can also help improve ride quality and stability by reducing rear-end sag.

One thing I would consider adding is an onboard compressor like the Air Lift WirelessONE Compressor System for Air Helper Springs # AL25980. It works perfectly with the Firestone air bags and lets you adjust the air pressure from the driver's seat, which is especially nice if you tow regularly or switch between loaded and unloaded driving.

One thing to keep in mind is that air bags help support the load and level the truck, but they won't increase the truck's towing or payload capacity. If you're also experiencing trailer sway, a properly sized weight distribution hitch with sway control is the best way to address that.

I'll pull a trailer all the time and with the airbags it's a no-brainer it keeps the truck level keeps trailer from swaying a lot because the rear ends more stable just best money I've spent a long time.

I put a set on my 04 f250 super duty I’ve got a 22 foot 14.000 pound gator made trailer I’ve hauled 9600 pounds on it with the Firestone bags 30psi handled it just perfect it I ever need another set definitely buy agin

I have an F250 as well and I pull an 33’ Airstream Classic that weighs about 11k loaded. I also have sliding tool box with all the stuff that you can’t load in the trailer with a 50gal aux fuel tank and a 7500 watt generator. All this is covered up by a camper shell. I use a weight distribution hitch and supplement it with the Firestone air bags generally to level up the truck and trailer. It only takes about 30#s and I think it really helps both truck and trailer.
