Can I Attach a Trailer Coupler to a Lawn Sweeper?

Updated 06/28/2026 | Published 06/12/2026

Question:

I have a forty two inch toe behind lawn sweeper, that i attached to my side by side by taking the ball off of it.And then putting the attachment that is on my sweeper, in the sleeve and putting the cotter pin through that. Unfortunately, I bent the attachment on my sweeper. My question is, could I put a coupler over the tubes on my sweeper? So I can just use the ball hich? I hope this makes sense to somebody. Im not sure if im using the correct terminology.I am new to all of this.

Hey Valerie, thanks for the pictures. It may take some modification but you can definitely attach a coupler to the tubing of your Lawn Sweeper. I actually did something similar on a dump trailer that was designed to be pulled behind a lawn mower. Same connection style as the one in your pictures.

If your side by side uses a 2" hitch ball, I recommend the Channel Tongue Trailer Coupler item # CT-3001-Z. This will need to be bolted to the tubing on your lawn sweeper's tongue.

What size hitch ball does your side by side have?

I was mistaken, it's not a two inch ball.It's a 1 7/8 inch ball.

@JerredH We've attached a drop down hitch on the side by side and We've put a coupler on the sweeper. Unfortunately, the weather has been crappy since so haven't had an opportunity to try it out. I really appreciate everybody's help. This has been an amazing site for information. Thank you. P.S.- as soon as the weather goes good and I have a chance to check it out, I will take pictures and send them. Once again, Thank you for all of your help.

@Valerie You're welcome! So happy to help. We've had some awful, hot, rainy days here so I get bad weather keeping you inside.
