Troubleshooting TowSmart Trailer Hitch Bolts Not Threading
Updated 05/16/2026 | Published 05/14/2026 >
Question:
the bolts that came with TS96VR seem very tight during installation. I can barely thread them in by hand and they get so tight before even coming close to securing the tow hitch.

Hello Shuntaro; it sounds like the weld nuts in the vehicle frame likely have some dirt, rust, or undercoating buildup in them, which is pretty common. We recommend cleaning the threads with a wire brush and using a thread chaser if needed before installing the hardware.
The bolts included with the # TS96VR should thread in by hand for several turns before tightening with a wrench. Forcing them in can damage the threads, so it’s best to stop and clean the weld nuts first.

When those things happen I think it’s always best to start over. First thing to do is make sure the bots thread in first easily that way you know that if they don’t that the part you are trying to thread thru is the problem. Also before u start see how slop the bolt has when it’s on the ground and putting thru the hole on the part. Good luck on all your endeavors.
