Which Support Struts Are Compatible With 28' Keystone Travel Trailer With Rear Bumper?

Updated 05/06/2026 | Published 04/30/2026

Question:

I have a 28 ft keystone bullet travel trailer. I have a 2-in bike hitch installed on the rear bumper. Im interested in purchasing support struts. My question is which one should I go with? The reason I ask is the rear bumper is welded to two separate square tubes that are then welded to the frame of the trailer. At least it appears that way. If I mount the supports to the square tubes then theyre not actually on the frame.

Hey Matt, sounds like the Mount-n-Lock SafetyStruts Universal Bumper Brackets - 4" to 4-1/2" - Qty 2 # MO34VR will work on your setup. It's universal and attaches to just about any RV rear bumper. I've attached an installation video to show you how it mounts to the bumper and bumper support arms.

You are correct, the bumper isn't directly welded to the frame and that is completely normal and fine for the safety strut installation. The bumpers are normally connected to the frame with 2 tubes as you mentioned.

If your bumper or bumper support arms look different than shown in the video, then feel free to reply with images so I can see how yours is different. But I'm confident it will work. [email protected]

Hi Matt, I put a set of Mount-n-Lock safety struts on my 2023 Forest River Wildwood because I added a bumper mount hitch on the square tube bumper to carry a bike rack. It truly gave support to the bumper so I didn't have to worry about hanging the weight of the carrier along with two e-bikes on a not so sturdy bumper. I was told by the RV dealer to have some brackets welded on to reinforce the bumper before attempting to haul the extra weight. Mount-n-lock was a simple and effective alternative. I hope this helps. @Rick. Although these supports should work for most trailers, for me my trailer mfg mounted the rear stabilizer jacks to far back on main frame rails to be able to use them. I had to weld on tube extensions to bottom of rails to be able to add support, I gave the brackets to my buddy and installed them on his trailer, They work like they should on his trailer, Cheers ! I added these to my 2024 Jayco 19MRK. They were an easy install. They bolt to whatever mounts your bumper to your frame. Be it tube channel, a C-channel or more of an I-beam set up. It sounds like they should work for your application. There are a number of YouTube videos to watch various installations. Hope this helps
