Can 2024 Toyota RAV4 LE Handle 250 lbs of Bikes and Bike Rack

Updated 04/29/2026 | Published 04/26/2026

Question:

I have a Toyota Rav4 LE 2024 AWD, with a BandW trailer hitch part number BW47BR installed 675 Pound Tongue Weight. I have 2 adult mountain bikes and 2 kids bikes, the heaviest bike is 35 lbs. Ive read mixed information about the weight limitations of the Rav4 hitch tongue capacity, between 150 and 350 lbs. This rack being heavier than others, fully loaded with 4 bikes can weigh upwards of 250 lbs. Im having my doubts that I may be exceeding my car limitations, but Im seeing the photos by etrailer showing the rack installed on a Rav4. So considering I have the BandW hitch, would I be within the safety limits using this rack on my Rav4?

Hello Hatem; it looks like the only models that can handle 350 lbs are the Adventure and TRD Off-Road. Your 2024 Toyota RAV4 LE is limited to the 150 lbs unless you can get Toyota to say otherwise, so the # B82FR will be too heavy with your bikes.

The frame is the same for all of them but I believe there are differences in the suspension so it still matters. You are always limited by the lowest rated component. Even though your hitch has that high tongue weight rating you have to follow what your vehicle is capable of.

Even with an incredibly light bike rack, like the Hollywood Racks Destination Bike Rack for 4 Bikes # HR4000 (weighs 42 lbs), it sounds like you're going to be over that capacity. You can either throw a bike in the back or use a roof mounted rack like # MPG2103 to cut that down enough so you aren't overloaded.
