What Do I Need to Replace My Bumper on My 2021 Lance 1475 to Attach a 27 Gallon Waste Water Tank?

Updated 04/20/2026 | Published 04/11/2026

Question:

I have a 2021 Lance 1475 travel trailer. I would like to replace my back bumper with a mount n lock heavy hauler bumper with the hope of attaching a 27 gallon camco waste water tank while traveling. I am unable to find a 90 degree bumper mount to attach to the metal plate at the back of my trailer to the 4x4 bumper. Can you send me a list of the parts needed? I have pics if needed. Thank you..

Hello Michael,

Thanks for writing in.

You’re not finding a 90 degree bracket because that style of connection isn’t used or recommended for your trailer. The rear wall plate on your Lance is not structural and is not designed to support cargo weight. Trying to tie a bumper into that plate would fail under the kind of load a 27 gallon waste tank creates. The correct solution is to mount the bumper directly to the frame, which is exactly how the Mount n Lock system is designed.

For your 2021 Lance 1475, this setup will work and is the right way to do what you’re wanting.

Start with the Mount-n-Lock Heavy-Haul'r Standard Duty Replacement RV Bumper - 4.0" - 550 lbs - Black # MNT43VR. This replaces your factory bumper and clamps directly to both frame rails using multiple brackets, giving you a solid, load-rated mounting point.

You will also need the AddaBumper Extension Plates for Mount-n-Lock Heavy Haul'r RV Bumpers - 10 Hole - Qty 2 # MO24VR. On a Lance 1475, the rear wall sits close to the frame, and these plates are what provide the necessary offset so the bumper can be installed correctly without interference. This is a required part for proper fitment on that trailer.

To handle the weight of a full 27 gallon tank during travel, you should include the Mount-n-Lock SafetyStruts Standard Bumper Brackets - 4" to 4-1/2" - Qty 2 # MO22FR. These tie the outer ends of the bumper back into the frame and significantly reduce flex and bounce. With a load like a waste tank, this added support is important for long-term durability.

For carrying the tank itself, the 24x40 etrailer Cargo Carrier for RV Bumper - Steel - Folding - 500 lbs # e99050 is the right choice and is fully compatible with this setup. It clamps to the 4 inch bumper and gives you a stable platform so the tank can sit flat and be properly strapped down.

The AddaBumper Drop Plates for Mount-n-Lock Heavy Haul'r RV Bumpers - 18 Hole - Qty 2 # MNT55VR are available if you need to fine tune the height of the bumper during installation, but they are only used if clearance or positioning requires it.

All of these parts are designed to work together. The # MNT43VR bumper mounts to the frame, the # MO24VR plates position it correctly on the Lance, the # MO22FR struts reinforce it for dynamic load, and the # e99050 carrier provides the proper platform for the tank. This combination gives you a frame-mounted, reinforced system that is appropriate for carrying a large waste tank while traveling.

What trip are you most looking forward to this summer? Are you more of the campground camper, or more the off grid camper?

Thank you Kate for the detailed replacement info and the parts list. I should have mentioned that I don’t intend on traveling with a full waste tank, but empty and just looking to store it externally instead of in the bed of my truck. I prefer campground camping so I have access to sewage dumping. But I like to overbuild the project so that I have mounting options for the future. Thanks again for your help and I am looking forward to completing this upgrade.

@MichaelK Glad to hear that you will not be traveling with the tank full, no need for all that extra weight. If you a remember to do a review, please include some pictures. I love to see the completed projects =)
