Good morning, Would the TFX150ACQ Torx Trailer Floor and Wall Liner Screw for ACQ Treated Wood work well for adding treated side boards to aluminum utility trailer side rails? Or would aluminum be too soft to hold self tapping screws wondering if I should be using something with a backing, like jack-nut or rivet-nut instead? Thanks, Brian

Hey, Brian! That's a great question.
You can totally use the Redline 1-1/2" Long Torx Trailer Floor and Wall Liner Screw part # TFX150ACQ with your aluminum side rails.
This screw is not self-drilling, so we recommend drilling a 7/32" hole through the aluminum and wood first. Once the pilot hole is made, you can then drive the screw in, and it will tap its own threads.
Be careful not to overtighten, especially in aluminum, as this can strip the threads. If you're installing into thinner aluminum, around 1/8" thick or less, or an area that will see vibration, adding a backing plate can help improve strength and help prevent pull-out over time. For thicker aluminum, around 3/16" or more, a backing plate is typically not needed.
