Hello April, thanks for reaching out. The Fantastic Vent 4000BT is a standard 12v roof vent so that can be used to replace a manual vent as long as you have a way to get power to the vent. That said, the 4000BT is an older model that we no longer carry. If you are looking for a vent upgrade, we do have a great option for that. I recommend the following:

- MaxxFan Deluxe Roof Vent w/ 12V Fan and Thermostat - Manual Lift - 10 Speed - White # MA00-05100K

This is a 12v 10-speed fan that fits a standard 14" x 14" roof opening. As long as your current vent is also standard size and you can get power to it, this will be a great upgrade for you. It has a rain shield and built-in thermostat. You get 10 speeds in manual mode or automatic control through the thermostat, which turns the fan on and off to hold your set temperature. You can also reverse the air flow. Definitely one of the best upgraded vents we offer.

Bought 3 of them for my class A. The one for the kitchen is a remote controlled which makes it very easy to use. Able to control the speed from the remote. I went with this fan rather than a manual because of the convenience for the wife to use. The other two were placed by the shower and the toilet area respectively. Those two are manual and do a fantastic job removing water vapor from the shower. Works the same removing the smell out of the toilet area. Just be aware that these fans pull a serious amount of air and they will draw smell out of black water tank if you let it run too long, so be aware of this one.

@DaveM Thanks for the detailed setup breakdown, Dave! Sounds like a great combo using the remote fan in the kitchen for convenience and the manual ones in the bathroom for moisture control. Glad to hear they’re doing such a strong job moving air, that’s exactly what you want in those areas. And that’s a great heads-up on the airflow pulling from the black tank too, definitely one of those “learn it once” moments nobody forgets haha. Appreciate you sharing that tip, it’ll help others get the most out of their setup!

I have the MaxxFan Deluxe w/thermostat and manual lift. I've been overall happy with it. I haven't used the automatic mode much, which I think causes the fan to go on if a certain temperature is reached, so can't say too much about it. If I were to buy another MaxxFan, I'd probably consider the one with the automatic lift, which I assume would open up if the automatic "on" function activates. That way I wouldn't have to think about opening the vent when using automatic mode. That said, I guess you could just leave the vent open anytime you have the automatic mode activated. Aside from that, the fan is quiet--there are times when there's a minor squeak for a few days, but it seems to go away and I haven't had that issue much. If you're under tree canopy or have a lot of bugs outside, a little bit of debris can enter the fan area, even with the enclosed design of the hood. This actually jammed my fan once, and I thought it had stopped functioning, but it was just a twig wedged between the fan and the housing. This has not required anything other than an occasional clean out. The other maintenance I do is occasionally removing the screen and rinsing out dust that's accumulated on it. This can be done easily from the inside of your RV, but you may need pliers to rotate the three tabs that hold the screen in place.

@MattF Thanks for the thorough breakdown, Matt! Sounds like you’ve got a solid handle on the manual vs automatic lift tradeoffs, that’s a great point about the auto model being more “set it and forget it.” Appreciate the notes on noise and maintenance too. The tip about debris getting in under tree cover is especially helpful, and good call checking the fan before assuming something’s wrong. Regular screen cleaning is a great habit as well.
