What Causes RV Awning Fabric to be Loose on One Side
Published 03/16/2026 >
Question:
I have a 15ft solera slide topper awning that has lost some tension on the right side. Ive tried rewinding and it still is too loose at hwy speeds. What is the correct gear head replacement for this length of slide topper? Thanks,

Hey John, this problem is usually due to fabric sliding with the top rail, uneven tension, or a misaligned arm. . To fix it, fully extend the awning, center the fabric on the roller tube, adjust the arms, and re-secure the fabric to the rail using set screws. Have you tried all of that yet? If so, and you need a replacement head I would need to see a picture of your current head to see what replacement you would need.

I’ve done all of this. Do I need to remove the gear head for the pic or will a external pic work?
