Hi Randall,

That’s a great question. We checked directly with Malone, and the four side support uprights of the Malone TopTier Load Bar Kit part # MPG493 measure 1-1/2" x 1-1/2" and are made from 16-gauge steel.

This kit also comes with the hardware you’ll need to attach the rack to a utility trailer with 4'–5' deck widths using a bolt-on side-rail installation and the included hardware. As long as your trailer deck is between 4' and 5' wide, this will work well for you.

1.5”x1.5” square width. They start to bend at approximately 45” and the bent portion is about 12” in or out depending on how you position for your situation. I was able to mount mine on a Malone Micro Trailer using low crossbar and additional tongue mounted crossbar allowing Malone eBike rack to fit in between and addition of second tongue crossbar to mount second Malone eBike rack in center also. So now I can put two Kayaks, two eBikes, and two paddle boards on trailer with very little addition hardware and drilling of holes to do so. I am going to weld an extra long bar for crossbar I didn’t use to strengthen the upper tier rack some but don’t think it’d be entirely necessary for only putting paddle boards on upper tier but I plan to also put two 8” pvc tubes on top tier for gear, paddles, etc. Im probably pushing weight maximum on trailer of 800lbs but axle is for 1800lbs and I’ve done some other additions to make trailer more solid with grade 8 hardware and a couple large heavy duty U bolts holding the moveable extended tongue in place which was an extra accessory on the micro trailer when I bought it. I also put a thick black plastic floor on the trailer to add stability, protect from debris flying up and to put other gear like sand wheels and Hobie kick up drives when traveling. Not much room left for boxes to mount with the two eBike racks.

@Lemonade First off, that is an awesome setup. It sounds like you really thought it through and made that Micro Trailer work hard for you. Adding PVC tubes on the top tier for paddles and gear is a smart way to keep things organized too. The only thing I’ll gently mention for anyone following along is to keep a close eye on total loaded weight. Even though the axle is rated for 1,800 pounds, the Malone Micro Trailer itself is rated for 800 pounds total capacity, so it’s important to factor in the weight of the trailer, racks, bikes, boats, and gear together. Sounds like you’ve reinforced things thoughtfully with Grade 8 hardware and heavy duty U bolts, which definitely adds confidence. Just keep the warranty in mind :) Out of curiosity, where are you usually taking this setup? It sounds like it’s built for some serious adventure days.

@HeatherA Yes, I’m sure I’ll be way over 800lbs with two bikes, two kayaks, and two paddle boards. That’s kinda why I mentioned it. I’m not familiar with the warranty offered and buying used I doubt that that I qualify anyway?? I am concerned with not having to pick my stuff up off the hwy scattered about for miles with road rash and broken. What I did is definitely not warranted, suggested, and unsure if safe, but is possible and super convenient if it works. I haven’t taken it anywhere yet. I will be taking it about 800 miles to SW Virginia near Blue Ridge Parkway shortly and then another 400 miles to NE Ohio. I’ll check how it’s holding up along the way and make adjustments if and when necessary. First trip will only have two Hobie Kayaks and one eMoto, 210lbs for the two kayaks and 180lbs for the eMoto. So already at half of max not counting weight of top tier rack, two bike racks, two tongue bars, spare tire, etc. I’m banking on the 800lb max being a highly conservative max for insurance and self preservation purposes of the company. The tires max out at 785lbs each, 1570lb max, also hopefully conservative, but I plan to keep it under 1500lbs with almost all of the weight in front of the tires and as much on the tongue as possible. If it works I plan to take it everywhere. First 1200 miles test by mid April and at the very least 1200 miles back by mid November. Fingers crossed ??

@HeatherA Why is there a picture of a car with a bmx bike on the back next to my name?? I never did that and don’t own a car like that. The last bmx bike I had was a Predator in Orange and the only car I’ve ever owned wasn’t that. How do I change it?? Also the RV couple eTrailer has advertising on YouTube has caused me to not purchase items from eTrailer on a few occasions. I think because the dude can’t pronounce “Trailer” mainly. I vote to end that campaign.
