Ordering thru e-trailer has always been quick and easy. Ordered my Malone kit and it arrived in five days. e-trailer kept me informed of my order status and checked to make sure delivery was ok. Have ordered from them several times and have been always satisfied.

@Gregg Great! Glad to hear you are happy with the load bar kit for your trailer. Come back anytime you need anything!

by:

Excellent build quality, all hardware included. I wouldn’t hesitate to buy this again, if needed.

by:

Install was easy, worked great. It's wide enough to hold 2 canoes. My trailer already had plywood walls added, but that wasnt a problem. Some strategically drilled holes in the plywood, and it was good.

Feedback for the manufacturer:

The unnecessary 2nd hold at the top of the uprights will be a nesting location for wasps. Please stop adding that hole or provide plugs for the extra holes.

by:

Mostly works as advertised, fits my needs. An order shipped with missing parts, but etrailer took care of it quickly. Downside is the bracket that holds the cross bars to the vertical bars allows significant movement and instability going down the highway, and the kit didn't come with square u bolts for my trailer that had full tube rails instead of angle iron. I sourced my own square u bolts and had to get bracing fabricated to fix the all of the connection point movement issues. It's way more stable and solid now.

by:

We mounted this on our 5x10 utility trailer and it work perfectly. Fast shipping.

by:

I really like this product. It solved the issue of being able to carry 3 kayaks at once. Very solid and does not move at all. Thank you.

by:

Well designed and made considering the different builds of trailers this kit is made to fit. Overall pleased with my purchase. The only criticism I can think of is that’s it’s heavier than I thought it would be (I tow with a subcompact car and therefore weight is critical). I am personally curious to know if making this product from aluminum would raise the price too much. I installed mine on a 4’x6’ Carry On (Lowe’s) utility trailer.

by:

I ordered this kit on May 29th, and received it on June 6th. I'm installing it on a 5'x8' Carry-On Utility Trailer to store canoes and kayaks. The box was slightly torn upon delivery. When opened, it was missing all the hardware! I called etrailer.com customer service right away and they were very nice after I was able to speak with someone. They are going to contact Malone to send me the hardware. We'll see how it goes. I'll provide an updated review when everything is resolved. It's kind of strange that another reviewer had the same issue. Hope the hardware comes before our camping trip!

Malone sent the missing hardware, and everything assembled just fine. The only negative about this product is the sharp edges will damage your kayaks and also leave a black residue on them if theyre a light color. Be sure to install foam on top. I used pool noodles and zip tied them to the frame. Works great!

by:

Its not a one size fits all. Most people who purchase will need to make modifications so it will fit. My trailer is made out of 1.5 inch angle and the angled u-bolts were too large. I ran out of threads before the brackets tightened properly. I had to make spacers in order for it to work. If the angled u-bots were threaded farther back, it may have worked. I decided to make spacers rather than cutting more threads. The hardware is cheap. The brackets do you quality inconsistencies. The idea is great and will work after modifications. Quality control needs to be in place to correct the inconsistencies. I think its expensive for what you get and the mods required for it to fit.

by:

Fairly easy to put together and seems solid. I have used it twice with no issues. It does not fit the Lowes Utility Trailer 4x6 without modding the steel plates that screw into the frame. The Lowes trailer's side rails are too short to work with the unmodified steel plates that ship with the kit.

by:

I converted my 5 X 10 utility trailer into a kayak trailer & your product worked as advertised! I am very pleased with my purchase & will continue ordering from your site in the future!

by:

Love this rack. Sturdy and stable. Used for mounting kayaks on our 5.5' x 10' utility trailer.

by:

Much heavier than I anticipated. Quality hardware and strong components. The kit now includes U bolts for square frame trailers, and I used those to tie the bottom of the uprights to the trailer for added rigidity. Add some Malone Sea Wings and your kayaks will be secure and safe.

by:

Very well made and sturdy. Bought for a 5x8 trailer to carry kayaks, easy install, clear instructions. Took less than an hour to install.

by:

High quality components and everything fit my trailer. Perfect addition to expand what I can do with the trailer.

by:

Universal and durable ladder rack system. I would purchase again if needed.

by:

Easy to set up. Quality build. Adds a whole other dimension literally. Would recommend to anyone needing to increase storage on a light trailer.

by:

Cut it to fit my trailer to accommodate my specific height and width limitations and couldn't be happier.

by:

I am truly disappointed with the quality of their products. If this is what etrailer is, I recommend you avoid purchasing anything from them. I ordered a racking system, which came with no hardware, making the system useless. I would like to change the star rating to 4 stars with the following quote:

I would like to thank the staff at Etrailer.com for their and outstanding response. They corrected an error that occurred either when delivering or in transit, and provided me with my product expeditiosly. They have earned a dedicated custom. Thanks again.

  • Malone Crossbar Kit For 6'x8' Utility Trailer
The Malone TopTier Load Bar Kit for Utility Trailers part # MPG493 fits 4' wide and 5' wide trailer decks so it would not be compatible with your 6 foot wide utility trailer. The Malone Crossbar Conversion Kit for Standard Utility Trailer part # MPG475 will fit the 6'x8' utility trailer if it has an open frame with square rails.

  • Can I Install the Malone Top Tier Load Bar Kit MPG493 on my Square Tube Utility Trailer
Yes you can swap out the angled U-bolts for square U-bolt to better match your trailer on the Malone TopTier Load Bar Kit for Utility Trailers part # MPG493. These are 3/8" U-bolts that you will have to provide yourself as we do not offer an alternative.

  • Does Malone Top Tier MPG493 Kit Require Painting
The Malone # MPG493 TopTier Load Bar Kit has uprights constructed of galvanized steel that shouldn't need painting. Actually, it's fairly difficult to get paint to stick to galvanized steel, some would say its impossible. The crossbars are vinyl coated, and wouldn't require painting.

  • Can Malone TopTier Load Bar Kit Work on 60 inch Wide Utility Trailer
Hey Matthew, the crossbars of the Malone TopTier part # MPG493 are quite a bit longer than the width of your 60 inch wide trailer at 78 inches so you might end up hitting things with the crossbars but I don't see why it wouldn't work aside from that. If you'd be open to trimming the bars down to 60 inches this would be a more ideal solution I'd say.

  • Can I Carry Adirondack Guide Boat And 11' Inflatable Catamaran On The Same Trailer?
Hey Dave, thanks for reaching out. Both of those boats are pretty cool! After looking at some specs for both online and looking at the trailers we carry here is what I am thinking: That inflatable catamaran is like 72" wide. It would be possible to carry this with one of our trailers like the Malone MegaSport Kayak Trailer # MPG535, but there would be no room for the other boat. The crossbars on this trailer are extra-long 86" wide and are the largest we offer. It looks like the Adirondack...

  • Recommendation to Install Crossbars on Utility Trailer for Kayak Carrier
I may have a solution for you, however the Inno Truck Bed Cargo Rack # INRT101-79 referenced in your question is designed specifically for certain model truck beds, so it might not be the best fit for your utility trailer. • Recommended Roof Rack Load Bar For Putting Roof Top Tent On Utility Trailer
Some roof racks have a higher static capacity, meaning it can hold more weight when vehicle is not in motion compared to when the vehicle is in motion. This is not the case with the Malone TopTier Load Bar Kit for Utility Trailers # MPG493. I confirmed with Malone that the weight capacity for this system is 250lbs static and 250lbs dynamic. This would work for a roof top tent as long as the overall weight is under 250lbs.

  • Recommended Crossbars for Standard 5x8 Utility Trailer to Carry 2 Kayaks
The Malone Crossbar Conversion Kit for Standard Utility Trailer # MPG475 may work well on your utility trailer, but it is designed to attach to the frame and not the side rails, so you'd need to install through the floor mesh on your Tractor Supply 5x8 foot utility trailer. To have a crossbar system that attaches to the raised side frame, I recommend the Malone TopTier Load Bar Kit for Utility Trailers - 250 lbs # MPG493 which is high as you mentioned but can have the supports cut down...

I did contact Malone on your behalf and they confirmed you could use the Malone TopTier Load Bar Kit for Utility Trailers # MPG493 for a 5-1/2" foot trailer application. That said, they did have a specific note of caution that they stand behind the 4-5 foot wide capacity as that is how it has been tested and is the best positioned placement for the support tubes to fully support the load bars of the kit.

I recommend using the Malone TopTier Load Bar Kit for Utility Trailers # MPG493. This will allow you to mount the kayak on the Malone SeaWing Kayak Carrier # MPG107MD. This will place the kayak above your trailers rear gate giving you more clearance since the kayak will be able to hang behind the loading ramp. • Recommended Crossbars for Standard 5x8 Utility Trailer to Carry 4 Kayaks
I recommend the Malone TopTier part # MPG493. The Malone TopTier is designed to add load bars to an open trailer. The steel uprights attach to the side rails of the utility trailer since there is not a roof to attach the hardware to. The uprights install on trailers that are 4 feet or 5 feet wide so they work with your new trailer. The setup is about 4 feet tall so you can add cargo to the trailer as well if you need to.
