Does Malone Top Tier MPG493 Kit Require Painting

Should I paint the bare steel supports, will this rust in North Carolina?

The Malone # MPG493 TopTier Load Bar Kit has uprights constructed of galvanized steel that shouldn't need painting. Actually, it's fairly difficult to get paint to stick to galvanized steel, some would say its impossible.
The crossbars are vinyl coated, and wouldn't require painting.
