How to Fix Blue Single Light Stuck on Curt Spectrum Brake Controller

Published 03/05/2026

Question:

I have a Curt Spectrum brake controller 51170, 51362? There is a blue single light left lower. I does not go out and I am unable to adjust the controller. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Hey Paul, Curt brake controllers are pretty notorious for getting little weird internal bugs that make them stop working. But the good news is that typically all you have to do is unplug the controller for a little bit and then plug it back in to reset it and that should allow it to work like it should. Now if that does not fix the problem then the brake controller is damaged beyond repair due to an internal short and it would need to be replaced. Try resetting it though and let me know if that fixes it and we can go from there.

Thanks. I reset it and it still didn't work. I disconnected the plug in at the back of the controller with the small colored wires. The blue wire was out a bit. I pushed it back in and now it works. ?? Hopefully that's it? Thanks for your help. Paul

@PaulS Oh wow! Glad you got it figured out! I wouldn't have guessed that was the issue but I will keep in that in mind if someone else has this problem.
